AA doesn't load equipment schedules that far out. Safe to assume 777 service will continue.

Fair enough; will see how it plays out.

The price for this route this week is nearly impossible to believe.

AA discontinuing MIA-LAX Flagship (3 Cabin) Service?

It would appear based on recent schedule/equipment changes that effective Oct 29th AA is discontinuing MIA-LAX and LAX-MIA Flagship First/3 Cabin service which was served by at least one flight a day on the 77W. Historically there used to be at least one flight a day in each direction between Miami and Los Angeles where AA sold true "F" Flagship First service on a 3 Cabin aircraft. Most recently those were the following flights:

AA275 MIA - LAX
AA1088 LAX - MIA

There used to be even more than one flight a day in each direction but over the past several months that had shrunk down to just one daily flight each way. It does look like a widebody 772 comes back to the route in the spring but only for a month or so (probably for spring break) and regardless a 772 is not a Flagship First capable plane as it only is two cabin.

Any one know if there has been any official announcement or communication from AA? When I contacted our AA corporate Airpass rep they were clueless to the change.

I wonder if simple schedule rotation resulted in this change or if they don't see MIA-LAX and vice versa as a profitable Flagship First route. As a corporate travel coordinator this is a loss. We often have the choice of booking AA commercial flights vs private flights operated Citation X or Falcon 50. Many times our executives would actually prefer the AA Flagship first over the private jet as the privates almost never had comfortable lay flat accommodations such as the F seat in the 77W. I wonder if services such as JetSmarter were a factor as they now offer mainstream private flights between Miami and Los Angeles for about the same (or less) cost per seat as what the AA Flagship First seat costs.

Seems to correspond to the end of the LAX-SYD service, so it could be related. Not sure what route the 77Ws will be put on.

AA LAX-MIA discontinues using 77W after 10/28?

What could be the reason pulling 77W off that route?

it's been discussed elsewhere but LAX-SYD is being downgauged to a 789 so there is no positioning need to run the 77W.

Miami gets a 772 a little later in the schedule, but yeah looks like 3 class service is gone for the near future

Why not run the 789 LAX-MIA like they did 77W? Obviously not a 3-cabin plane but it'd be nice to have a lie-flat option still

Possibly because of aircraft availability and rotation. Does MIA have an inbound 789? IDK.

So am I correct on the following:

1. When flying the 77W in Business Class On LAX-MIA/MIA-LAX, I cannot use the Flagship First Check-in, being AAdvantage Platinum?

2. However, I am able to access the Flagship Lounge at LAX whilst flying LAX-MIA in Business Class?

Thanks so much!

Correct. The E190, MD-80, and 787-8/-9 are the only mainline fleet types that do not fly to MIA.

I think MIA will get the A330-300 on South American trips to replace 767s before any 787s.

No 789s at MIA. The 77W service was strictly due to aircraft rotations/scheduling on this small subfleet, nothing more. Putting the 77W on MIA-LAX had nothing to do with AA wanting to have it's most premium product (or any desire for lie-flat) operating a single frequency on this route.

1) Correct
2) Once it opens, yes.

Sad to see this service go. Scored a nice upgrade as Plat a few days ago, great use of 500-mile upgrades. Now only seeing 32B on my preferred travel dates, which (I think?) are generally older and don't have the nice IFE/power the 738 has.
