General Information
Despite it's size and five terminals, DFW is a fairly easy airport to navigate and connect though. If you have any difficulty, look around for kiosks / booths staffed by volunteer Ambassadors - they can usually be spotted wearing "ten gallon" cowboy hats. They offer maps and terminal guides (which include dining and shopping information).

Peculiarities: DFW can be severely affected by rare winter ice or snow, and summer thunderstorms. Lightning effectively shuts the flight line down. This is AA's prime hub; over 80% of aircraft movements here are AA, so knock-on effects during lengthy OSO / IROPS can manifest themselves systemwide.

Walking between terminals
- Terminals A-C and B-D (international) are connected at the ends by departures level walkways; the people mover belts on these walkways have been out of service at least for years. Estimate at least a five to ten minute walk between A and C, B and D, more if gates are farther from the connector.
- Terminals A and B are connected by overhead walkways (escalator or lift / elevator). This walkway is serviced by working people mover belts, all of which are out of service as of 7/18/19. Courtesy carts use this route by using lifts.
- Terminals C and D (international) are connected by overhead walkways (escalator or lift / elevator). This walkway is serviced by working people mover belts.

Q. If I am making an international to international connection, what is the process?
There is no international transit process in most U.S.A. airports, but (DFW and MIA have a ITI baggage exception for international to international if arriving from some "approved" international origins). Arriving internationally, unless you have been pre-cleared or are excused by meeting ITI requirements as described here, you must proceed through U. S. immigration (there are kiosks and a fast channel for Global Entry approved passengers, and a "green line" for those with no checked bags), recover your baggage from the baggage carousel and proceed through U. S. Customs. There is a "green line" shortcut for passengers traveling only with carry-on baggage (no checked luggage) and there are Global Entry kiosks and a short cut to Global Entry queues.
Upon exiting Customs there is a bag drop facility; drop your checked connecting baggage, exit to the landside arrivals area.
NOTE: if your connection exceeds 11 hours or entails remaining overnight, you will normally be required to take your baggage with you and re-check it within ~four hours of departure.
NOTE: Any liquids in excess of security allowance will have to either be packed in checked baggage or, in the case of duty free purchases at your origin (or in air from other airlines), presented in STEB (Secure, Tamper Evident Bags) with receipts to TSA
Proceed to the kiosks to get boarding passes for your ongoing travel, or check in and re-check your baggage, then proceed through TSA security to airside (see the "DFW Security" section). Your international departure will be from Terminal D, also your international arrival terminal.

Buses run 24 hours a day, depart (theoretically) every five minutes and reach the Rental Car Center in approximately 10 minutes.

During Off Schedule Operations / Irregular Operations, cots with blankets and pillows are available for affected passengers.

I won't do anything less than 2 hrs @ DFW, including domestic-the general rule of thumb when connecting is that you will land on the wrong side & wrong end of the airport from where you need to be, thus ensuring the slow speed victory lap around the airport which will then culminate in there being a plane at the gate.

This won't be until next year (I just noticed fares dropped so I can change and get some credit back), but you're probably right, I should just do the longer connection. Too bad there won't be any guesting for the Centurion lounge and no more Flagship access for MEX flights by then... Oh well.

I would do the 2.5 hr connection at DFW. 45 minutes is a bit tight and I would simply err on the side of caution. AA flights are constantly delayed and DFW being their hub with multiple terminals- a longer connection gives you some scope for any potential delays.

All the delays get a lot of press. But even now the majority of flights are in time. By the time you fly even more should be.
As others said though, your shedule will change so don't think so much about it.

DFW B to C
DFW experts please weigh in. On a flight right now that due to a late departure is going to arrive at DFW gate B7 giving me a very short time to get to C6. What is a reasonable amount of time to walk that distance? In row 2, so quick exit from aircraft. Assuming the walkway would be quicker than going up to Skylink given the fairly short distance, but correct me if wrong.

Not as close as you think, but I think walking might be quicker. You have to walk from B to either A or D, then walk from A or D to C. You are basically going from one corner of a square to another. There are moving walkways from C to A and not from B to D, so B -> A -> C will be quicker. There are also moving walkways to go over the expressway from B to A and from D to C.
All total it is about 1/2 mile using Google Earth Ruler. I would estimate 10 minutes if you walk quickly.
Skylink you have to ride 4 stations after you board, one in B, two in A, and one in C. Go up and down fairly slow escalators. I think would be about the same amount of time.

Looks like we will have 12 minutes or so ( to 10 min door close) if app is correct with arrival time. Going to go the Skylink route as we are no spring chickens. Appreciate the reply.

Looks like from where you should pick up Skylink, you will get off on the fourth stop. (One more in B, skipping the 2 in A, then the first for C.) This may help.

Yeah, me too.
After a 5 hour rolling delay getting to DFW a few weeks ago, I once thought I'd have 45 minutes to connect (assuming a 10 minute taxi), but then we landed on the far-east runway (17L), had to taxi to the low-C gates using the end-around taxiway on the south side (~15 minutes of taxiing). We then waited 5 minutes about 200 ft shy of the gate waiting for a ground crew (pilot, somewhat hilariously. blocked the road all the service trucks use). Then we waited 5 minutes for the jet-bridge operator to get lined up, (I watched from seat 8A, as they tried several times going back and forth to get it right). So, then I was off the plane at ~T-23 minutes and needed to get to the E-satellite. I Took Skytrain three stops (got lucky - no waiting), and got to the broken escalators in E towards the satellite at T-14 minutes. As I ran down the stairs, I peaked at the flight status on the App and saw it was changed to 'taking off', so knew I already lost. Got to the gate at T-9 minutes to a flight closed sign, the plane was pushed back. AAngel had me rebooked to a later (and delayed) OKC flight and I got home at 2AM instead of 10:30PM because of that.
Before landing, I DM'd the twitter team letting them know I just had a 5 hour delay and hoped to make my tight connection. They gave me a generic response about how "we monitor all of our elites making connections". I know you can't delay all flights all the time for late connecting passengers, but come one, Eagle flights making their last flight of the day can hold back a few minutes in these cases. I was traveling this route with a colleague and her family, btw, and we represented 4 of the 30 sold seats on that E145 flight.

DFW departure recommendations
My daughter, no status, is going to LGA from DFW this Saturday mid morning on AA.
Assuming the the flight goes, what time would be a recommended arrival time at DFW? She will have her boarding pass, both paper and wallet, when we leave the house. She is also Global Entry.
