General Information
Despite it's size and five terminals, DFW is a fairly easy airport to navigate and connect though. If you have any difficulty, look around for kiosks / booths staffed by volunteer Ambassadors - they can usually be spotted wearing "ten gallon" cowboy hats. They offer maps and terminal guides (which include dining and shopping information).

There is no need to leave the secure area to move from one concourse to another. *Exceptions are arriving international flights. In such case one must normally clear immigration and customs, reclaim bags and proceed through security.

Terminal Link's blue and greens vans arrive every 10 minutes and will transfer you between all terminals once outside of security.

Walking between terminals
- Terminals A-C and B-D (international) are connected at the ends by departures level walkways; the people mover belts on these walkways have been out of service at least for years. Estimate at least a five to ten minute walk between A and C, B and D, more if gates are farther from the connector.
- Terminals A and B are connected by overhead walkways (escalator or lift / elevator). This walkway is serviced by working people mover belts, all of which are out of service as of 7/18/19. Courtesy carts use this route by using lifts.
- Terminals C and D (international) are connected by overhead walkways (escalator or lift / elevator). This walkway is serviced by working people mover belts.

Q. If I am making an international to international connection, what is the process?
There is no international transit process in most U.S.A. airports, but (DFW and MIA have a ITI baggage exception for international to international if arriving from some "approved" international origins). Arriving internationally, unless you have been pre-cleared or are excused by meeting ITI requirements as described here, you must proceed through U. S. immigration (there are kiosks and a fast channel for Global Entry approved passengers, and a "green line" for those with no checked bags), recover your baggage from the baggage carousel and proceed through U. S. Customs. There is a "green line" shortcut for passengers traveling only with carry-on baggage (no checked luggage) and there are Global Entry kiosks and a short cut to Global Entry queues.
Upon exiting Customs there is a bag drop facility; drop your checked connecting baggage, exit to the landside arrivals area.
NOTE: if your connection exceeds 11 hours or entails remaining overnight, you will normally be required to take your baggage with you and re-check it within ~four hours of departure.
NOTE: Any liquids in excess of security allowance will have to either be packed in checked baggage or, in the case of duty free purchases at your origin (or in air from other airlines), presented in STEB (Secure, Tamper Evident Bags) with receipts to TSA
Proceed to the kiosks to get boarding passes for your ongoing travel, or check in and re-check your baggage, then proceed through TSA security to airside (see the "DFW Security" section). Your international departure will be from Terminal D, also your international arrival terminal.

Arriving Passengers: After collecting your baggage, follow the Rental Car signs to the designated pick-up area on the lower level of the terminal. From there, board the Rental Car shuttle bus. Buses run 24 hours a day, depart (theoretically) every five minutes and reach the Rental Car Center in approximately 10 minutes.
Departing Passengers: Before your departing flight, please return your vehicle at the Rental Car Center. For transportation from the facility to your terminal, board the Rental Car Shuttle. The Rental Car Shuttle runs 24 hours a day and departs every five minutes from the facility.

During Off Schedule Operations / Irregular Operations, cots with blankets and pillows are available for affected passengers.
During OSO / IROPS, AA will generally not offer hotel and meal vouchers for disruptions from causes not directly under the airline's control (such as weather). You may be able to at least get "distressed traveler" certificates for lower rates from AA, or you may be able to request distressed traveler rates from reservations center's or properties.

You *should* be able to access DFW. WiFi in D.
Then you would / could clear security at D and stay airside .... Of course you would have to exit secure area to check the bag ....

I doubt AS let me check in bag at Terminal D - do they even have a counter?!
if yes, then i would then re-enter security via D , and then take skytrain to E...
of course the issue will be resolved if i dont check in bags. just gonna be a nuisance if i do carry on throughout this particular trip cos lots of crap to carry

If your next flight was with AA, you could use the counters in Terminal D to check your bag. But unfortunately because it is on AS, you will have to take it to E landslide and won’t be able to pass security at term D in order to use the airside train.

The problem with this is the "check-in" luggage. If the "check-in" luggage meets the requirements for going through passenger air-side security, then that is what I would do. But, if you have more than the maximum allowed liquids (3.4oz bottles in a 1 quart clear plastic bag), then it would not work. I am assuming that the passenger would not be able to re-check their luggage within Terminal D (since it is mainly for international flights, and Terminal E is for domestic).
This will necessitate taking the landside ground transport described in the Wikipost at the top of the page.
Whether one is flying domestic or international from DFW doesn’t affect where one checks in, AFAIK. As well, a number of international flights depart A or C, as well as some domestic flights depart D.

Indeed, if luggage does not meet carryon rules, then it is only outside terminal.

If you have Global Entry and want to really speed things along, get the Mobile Passport app and you can skip the already short Global Entry lines.
I wouldn't get a cab, they may have a minimum fare since they have to wait hours in line to pick up a ride.

I have read through most of the posts on this thread (while watching the Dodger/Braves game) and I think I am OK but wanted to check.
My wife and I are flying through DFW from LHR to PHX. We are currently on AA79 from LHR and on AA1632 to PHX which gives us two hours to connect to our PHX flight. We are both GE and will have checked bags. Since the MCT is only 85 minutes I think I am OK. There is a later flight that leaves two hours later than AA1632 that I could switch to but I would hate to spend two hours in DFW if I don't have to. I know there was a post that recommended three hours to transit DFW but that seems excessive. What is the current thinking?
Also since we will be in J from LHR to DFW it appears the AA lounge we would most likely use is the Admirals Club in terminal C. Is that correct or is there a date for reopening the lounge in Terminal D?

If you have flight issues in Terminal D its a schlep back to the closest club in B. Since AA is horrible about providing accurate information at the gate often its the AC that can give you the real scoop, particularly as it relates to the amount of time needed to fix a mechanical issue or whether the a/c is likely to go out of service.

Looks like I will be stuck in Dallas tonight due to a missed connection. My flight into DFW is delayed for mechanical issues. I would like to simply book a room at 1 of the 2 Hyatts located at the airport since I will be arriving late. Does anyone's know if the AA vouchers are good for reduced rate at those hotels or what hotels AA will try to stick my wife and I tonight?

AA booked me with exactly 40 minutes connection time at DFW between by BOS-DFW and DFW-NRT
flights. I do understand that it is legal MCT but my question is about the baggage transfer. Is the
baggage handling system at AA/DFW efficient enough to transfer baggage within that time or less if there are
slight delays ? I have seen "SHORT" and "LONG" tags for BA/LHR transfer based on transit times. I have
never seen such tags on AA so just wondering if AA handlers can expedite transfers for short
connections ? Any anecdotal experience is most welcome....Thanks in advance !
