General Information
Despite it's size and five terminals, DFW is a fairly easy airport to navigate and connect though. If you have any difficulty, look around for kiosks / booths staffed by volunteer Ambassadors - they can usually be spotted wearing "ten gallon" cowboy hats. They offer maps and terminal guides (which include dining and shopping information).

Peculiarities: DFW can be severely affected by rare winter ice or snow, and summer thunderstorms. Lightning effectively shuts the flight line down. This is AA's prime hub; over 80% of aircraft movements here are AA, so knock-on effects during lengthy OSO / IROPS can manifest themselves systemwide.

Walking between terminals
- Terminals A-C and B-D (international) are connected at the ends by departures level walkways; the people mover belts on these walkways have been out of service at least for years. Estimate at least a five to ten minute walk between A and C, B and D, more if gates are farther from the connector.
- Terminals A and B are connected by overhead walkways (escalator or lift / elevator). This walkway is serviced by working people mover belts, all of which are out of service as of 7/18/19. Courtesy carts use this route by using lifts.
- Terminals C and D (international) are connected by overhead walkways (escalator or lift / elevator). This walkway is serviced by working people mover belts.

Q. If I am making an international to international connection, what is the process?
There is no international transit process in most U.S.A. airports, but (DFW and MIA have a ITI baggage exception for international to international if arriving from some "approved" international origins). Arriving internationally, unless you have been pre-cleared or are excused by meeting ITI requirements as described here, you must proceed through U. S. immigration (there are kiosks and a fast channel for Global Entry approved passengers, and a "green line" for those with no checked bags), recover your baggage from the baggage carousel and proceed through U. S. Customs. There is a "green line" shortcut for passengers traveling only with carry-on baggage (no checked luggage) and there are Global Entry kiosks and a short cut to Global Entry queues.
Upon exiting Customs there is a bag drop facility; drop your checked connecting baggage, exit to the landside arrivals area.
NOTE: if your connection exceeds 11 hours or entails remaining overnight, you will normally be required to take your baggage with you and re-check it within ~four hours of departure.
NOTE: Any liquids in excess of security allowance will have to either be packed in checked baggage or, in the case of duty free purchases at your origin (or in air from other airlines), presented in STEB (Secure, Tamper Evident Bags) with receipts to TSA
Proceed to the kiosks to get boarding passes for your ongoing travel, or check in and re-check your baggage, then proceed through TSA security to airside (see the "DFW Security" section). Your international departure will be from Terminal D, also your international arrival terminal.

Arriving Passengers: After collecting your baggage, follow the Rental Car signs to the designated pick-up area on the lower level of the terminal. From there, board the Rental Car shuttle bus. Buses run 24 hours a day, depart (theoretically) every five minutes and reach the Rental Car Center in approximately 10 minutes.

Even if it meets the minimum connection time, I wouldn't book a flight with only 35 minute connecting time at any airport. Keep in mind boarding starts around 30 minutes before departure, which really leaves 5 minutes to get to your next gate. At DFW, transiting can take far longer than 5 minutes if you have to change terminals. And if your inbound flight arrives late, you may miss your connecting flight.

I thought DFW standard domestic to international MCT is 50 minutes? Some sites, like expert flyer display this as ".50" but they mean 50 minutes, not half an hour. From EF: "All times are in the format HH.MM."

I am looking at booking flights connecting through DFW for May of next year:
YEG - DFW - FLL
we would land in Dallas at 12:55 pm and depart at 2:15 pm
For return:
FLL - DFW - YEG
we would land in Dallas at 3:10 and depart at 4:05 pm
Are these connection times reasonable/doable considering that we are flying to/from Canada? I know that Edmonton has pre-clearance so that should help on our way to Fort Lauderdale. What I am most concerned about is the connection coming home since it is only 55 minutes.

See chart at post 589 above. You meet/exceed the minimun connection times....1 hour on OB and 50 minutes on return. Just listen to connecting gate info announcement,double check that # on the monitors in the terminal and ask agent that meets the inbound plane easiest way to the tram (assuming a terminal change is involved).

Been thinking for awhile on the LAX-DFW-HKG route if taking the redeye out of LAX vs an early morning flight with a 40 min connection would be better or more risky in the Summer (Sept-Oct) since I read there are storms?

Eastbound flights often make up time in the air, so there's a chance you might actually get in early. But it all depends on your risk tolerance. I personally avoid booking such tight connections for international flights, but you might be different.
That being said, the LAX-DFW red-eye is miserable.

and
AA050 Departs DFW at 18:35
So 1h25 connection
Very likely that these will be different terminals as AA50 will depart from the E gates.
Is this enough time for the connection?? - I have been to DFW many times before and I would know I'd need to head to E gates straight away.
For November:

For someone with a normal walk speed, getting from the two furthest apart gates/terminals should take no more than about 20 minutes. I can't speak to getting into the international gates in E but getting to them should not be problematic with that much time.

I only have two really. Do I fly ELP-DFW-LHR on the 77W, with a 3 hour layover in DFW. That is the safe bet, but not as glamorous as the next option.
Alternatively do I fly ELP-DFW-AUS-LHR on the BA 787? I have a 40 minute layover in DFW, and about a 2 hour layover in AUS.
40 minutes is awfully short. AA.com lists both ELP-DFW and DFW-AUS as S80 aircraft. Any way to know if it is the same plane doing both legs? Then the layover time isn't an issue.
Do I book the BA option through AUS, especially since even if I were to miss the connection assuming it is two seperate planes isn't there 3 AA and 1 BA flights a day to LHR from DFW, I assume at least one will have a seat? I will be departing November 14th.

I suppose you could check the same DFW-AUS flight today on flightaware, then use the "track incoming flight" link to see if the plane is used on the ELP-DFW leg. But even if it is, November is far enough off that a minor schedule juggling could mean it won't be by then.
