General Information
Despite it's size and five terminals, DFW is a fairly easy airport to navigate and connect though. If you have any difficulty, look around for kiosks / booths staffed by volunteer Ambassadors - they can usually be spotted wearing "ten gallon" cowboy hats. They offer maps and terminal guides (which include dining and shopping information).

There is no need to leave the secure area to move from one concourse to another. *Exceptions are arriving international flights. In such case one must normally clear immigration and customs, reclaim bags and proceed through security.

Terminal Link's blue and greens vans arrive every 10 minutes and will transfer you between all terminals once outside of security.

Walking between terminals
- Terminals A-C and B-D (international) are connected at the ends by departures level walkways; the people mover belts on these walkways have been out of service at least for years. Estimate at least a five to ten minute walk between A and C, B and D, more if gates are farther from the connector.
- Terminals A and B are connected by overhead walkways (escalator or lift / elevator). This walkway is serviced by working people mover belts, all of which are out of service as of 7/18/19. Courtesy carts use this route by using lifts.
- Terminals C and D (international) are connected by overhead walkways (escalator or lift / elevator). This walkway is serviced by working people mover belts.

Q. If I am making an international to international connection, what is the process?
There is no international transit process in most U.S.A. airports, but (DFW and MIA have a ITI baggage exception for international to international if arriving from some "approved" international origins). Arriving internationally, unless you have been pre-cleared or are excused by meeting ITI requirements as described here, you must proceed through U. S. immigration (there are kiosks and a fast channel for Global Entry approved passengers, and a "green line" for those with no checked bags), recover your baggage from the baggage carousel and proceed through U. S. Customs. There is a "green line" shortcut for passengers traveling only with carry-on baggage (no checked luggage) and there are Global Entry kiosks and a short cut to Global Entry queues.
Upon exiting Customs there is a bag drop facility; drop your checked connecting baggage, exit to the landside arrivals area.
NOTE: if your connection exceeds 11 hours or entails remaining overnight, you will normally be required to take your baggage with you and re-check it within ~four hours of departure.
NOTE: Any liquids in excess of security allowance will have to either be packed in checked baggage or, in the case of duty free purchases at your origin (or in air from other airlines), presented in STEB (Secure, Tamper Evident Bags) with receipts to TSA
Proceed to the kiosks to get boarding passes for your ongoing travel, or check in and re-check your baggage, then proceed through TSA security to airside (see the "DFW Security" section). Your international departure will be from Terminal D, also your international arrival terminal.

Arriving Passengers: After collecting your baggage, follow the Rental Car signs to the designated pick-up area on the lower level of the terminal. From there, board the Rental Car shuttle bus. Buses run 24 hours a day, depart (theoretically) every five minutes and reach the Rental Car Center in approximately 10 minutes.

I'm planning a trip ORD-DFW-SAF.
AA281 ORD-DFW usually ends up in Terminal C, or occasionally Terminal A.
AA2886 DFW-SAF always leaves from Terminal E.
Given that I'll have two children in tow (probably in a double stroller), how much time would I realistically need to make this connection, please? Do I have to reclear security between these two flights?

No, American Eagle per se doesn't operate out of E, but as the LUS flights have integrated at A-C-D, and Eagle mostly at B, something had to give. American Eagle operated by ExpressJet gave.

In the past you can check bags at any AA terminal at DFW no matter which one your flight departs. Any idea if this can also be done at Terminal E now that AA has ticket counters in support of the American Eagle / ExpressJet operations? As this setup is temporary, I wonder if this terminal is the black sheep of the family with limited support for things like this.
I am returning back to Terminal E on a different airline, and it would make it easier getting to my car in terminal parking.

Apologies if this is answered somewhere in the thread, I read the Wiki but not all the posts. New to DFW.
I'm looking at a 75 mins domestic to domestic connection, both flights operated by AA. Looks like from the Wiki that the flights could arrive / depart from either terminal A or C. It seems enough time, from the Wiki I presume I can do that connection airside and not have to face security?
What's the longest time it would take between gates (say worst case scenario of low numbered A gate to high numbered C)? Just thinking about any delay on the first flight leaving a tighter connection. Walking or skyline. No checked bags.

I can't imagine anyone who is able bodied requiring over fifteen minutes to travel between gates using SkyLink, given on domestic to domestic there is absolutely no reason to go labdside and pass through security.
Walking, perhaps twenty minutes at a decent pace.

Sorry if this has been covered, but I wasn't able to find what I'm looking for.
I'm flying AUH-DFW (EY) DFW-YVR (AA). I'll have been through pre-clearance in AUH, so I'm assuming I'll land as a domestic flight, although I've heard that sometimes these flights still get funnelled through customs anyway? I have five hours to kill on the connection - is it worth trying to go out of the airport, even just to a mall nearby? If so, what's the process for this? Can I leave my bags (assuming that they're checked through to the connection), or will I need to claim them? Not sure DFW is all that entertaining for five hours....
If it makes a difference, I'm flying J on EY and Y on AA, so likely won't have lounge access in DFW.

I am in business class and EXP so hopefully bags come off quickly. I also have TSA precheck. Will I need to go back through security and will I have enough time?

I'm trying to work out 2 different itineraries for international travel. I'd be traveling MAD-YYZ-DFW on Air Canada, then switching to American for my last leg. Since I'd be coming from Canada, I'd have to clear customs after arriving into DFW. If I have a checked bag, how would I get that bag tagged and on to my AA flight? Would they be able to do that at the international arrival bag drop? Or would I have to exit and go back to the main ticket counter? I've got GE so I'm not too worried about a relatively short connection time, but I would be a little nervous if I'd have to leave all the way out to the main ticketing counters to drop my bag (I could try to squeeze into just a carry on)

No, you won't clear customs at DFW. You will clear US customs at YYZ via pre clearance.
You don't say what your connection time is, but the bag from your AC flight will be delivered to a bag claim around E30 and then there are AA check-in desks at E34. If you want to use PreCheck, you'll have to head back to the security at E18. And then you'll probably have to ride the airside train to another terminal for your AA flight.
So, it would probably be better with a carryon.
