General Information
Despite it's size and five terminals, DFW is a fairly easy airport to navigate and connect though. If you have any difficulty, look around for kiosks / booths staffed by volunteer Ambassadors - they can usually be spotted wearing "ten gallon" cowboy hats. They offer maps and terminal guides (which include dining and shopping information).

There is no need to leave the secure area to move from one concourse to another. *Exceptions are arriving international flights. In such case one must normally clear immigration and customs, reclaim bags and proceed through security.

Terminal Link's blue and greens vans arrive every 10 minutes and will transfer you between all terminals once outside of security.

Walking between terminals
- Terminals A-C and B-D (international) are connected at the ends by departures level walkways; the people mover belts on these walkways have been out of service at least for years. Estimate at least a five to ten minute walk between A and C, B and D, more if gates are farther from the connector.
- Terminals A and B are connected by overhead walkways (escalator or lift / elevator). This walkway is serviced by working people mover belts, all of which are out of service as of 7/18/19. Courtesy carts use this route by using lifts.
- Terminals C and D (international) are connected by overhead walkways (escalator or lift / elevator). This walkway is serviced by working people mover belts.

Q. If I am making an international to international connection, what is the process?
There is no international transit process in most U.S.A. airports, but (DFW and MIA have a ITI baggage exception for international to international if arriving from some "approved" international origins). Arriving internationally, unless you have been pre-cleared or are excused by meeting ITI requirements as described here, you must proceed through U. S. immigration (there are kiosks and a fast channel for Global Entry approved passengers, and a "green line" for those with no checked bags), recover your baggage from the baggage carousel and proceed through U. S. Customs. There is a "green line" shortcut for passengers traveling only with carry-on baggage (no checked luggage) and there are Global Entry kiosks and a short cut to Global Entry queues.
Upon exiting Customs there is a bag drop facility; drop your checked connecting baggage, exit to the landside arrivals area.
NOTE: if your connection exceeds 11 hours or entails remaining overnight, you will normally be required to take your baggage with you and re-check it within ~four hours of departure.
NOTE: Any liquids in excess of security allowance will have to either be packed in checked baggage or, in the case of duty free purchases at your origin (or in air from other airlines), presented in STEB (Secure, Tamper Evident Bags) with receipts to TSA
Proceed to the kiosks to get boarding passes for your ongoing travel, or check in and re-check your baggage, then proceed through TSA security to airside (see the "DFW Security" section). Your international departure will be from Terminal D, also your international arrival terminal.

Arriving Passengers: After collecting your baggage, follow the Rental Car signs to the designated pick-up area on the lower level of the terminal. From there, board the Rental Car shuttle bus. Buses run 24 hours a day, depart (theoretically) every five minutes and reach the Rental Car Center in approximately 10 minutes.

During Off Schedule Operations / Irregular Operations, cots with blankets and pillows are available for affected passengers.
During OSO / IROPS, AA will generally not offer hotel and meal vouchers for disruptions from causes not directly under the airline's control (such as weather). You may be able to at least get "distressed traveler" certificates for lower rates from AA, or you may be able to request distressed traveler rates from reservations center's or properties.

This has been my third flight out of the new construction gates at DFW in recent weeks and all three times there has been no dedicated Priority Boarding lane. Was running late due to a mechanical delay on prior flight and was stuck behind Groups 2,3, & 4 lol. Is this a new change? I should have taken a pic but curious if anyone else is seeing this at DFW.
I'd have to say if you arrived domestically you should never go landslide at DFW - the SkyTrain is by far the fastest way to travel inter terminal. If you arrived delayed internationally, it's probably best to pass through security in Terminal D than go to those areas of A or B that are under construction to check in.

The TRIP link can reveal where the refurbishment is occurring, and the wiki has a link for security info - but I'm not sure how well and rapidly the latter is updated, nor would I think your concerns would be addressed.
But the boarding lane discontrol is about AA employees not performing their duties and moving, setting up stanchions and guide lines as necessary. This might be something to write AA about, if anyone's actually paying attention at that end. (If I had thevDFW Station Chief's info, I'd write there.)

Has DFW improved its processing of international arrivals? A few years ago there were horror stories of 3-hour waits at immigration and customs, and while my own experience wasn't that bad, DFW was definitely worse than other airports. But recently I hear that they've made a lot of improvements, so I'm hoping to hear about the current situation.
And one more question: can my non-US citizen wife (from a visa waiver country) use the US citizen lane when traveling with me (US citizen)? In 2013 they said no, but since then we've arrived at ORD a few times and were able to use the US citizen lane together. How is DFW?
Edited to add: We will have only carry-on luggage. I hear there is a special lane for people without checked bags. Is it available to both US citizens and non-US citizens? Is it really faster than the other lanes?

I don't have GE, and my wife is not eligible for it. I'm interested in knowing what DFW entry procedures are like for non-GE people (in particular for people with no checked bags).

The biggest variable is arrival time/day (how many other flights arrive at the same time). Very hard to generalize otherwise really. It could be smooth and take less than an hour. It could be horrible an take much longer. The best we can often do is tell you if you have an unreasonably short connection, which I presume you have not booked.
Hopefully others can answer your specific questions about non-citizen and carry-on lines. I've unfortunately not see that part of immigration in quite a while.

International surprises at DFW on AA
recently encountered two surprises flying from MEX to US West Coast via DFW
1) these is a terrifically-fast express lane at Customs for carryon-only baggage (green line) on far wall at Customs
SURPRISE! when you finish at the express lane and step through elevator/door ... you find yourself outside security at ticketing counter / checkpoint for D22. Long line to reenter the terminal
2) there are many flights to the West Coast so when your flight gets in early, you have options for an earlier flight
SURPRISE! the DFW ticketing agent explained that since the ticket originated outside of the US, AA forbids the agents (and punishes the agents) for moving to an earlier flight. and the check-in kiosk (you're outside security ... See #1 above) also denies any other flight options.
Thinking that both of these can be fixed ... anyone at AA listening?

Same here. Flying back from HKG earlier this year, was able to move up my LGA flight by nearly two hours in DFW after exiting customs.

Roger that. I usually book extra long connections at the US end when I'm returning on a TPAC flight so as to avoid any problems with flight delays. If the flight's on time, instead of rechecking my bag, I just go to the AA ticket counter and get on the next available flight.
