Looks like they are making an effort. Here's an email I received:

"Important information

You are booked on a special flight (US1939) and it is one of the last to fly under the US Airways name. To celebrate, a media and employee event will be held before your flight departs from Phoenix. Please arrive at your gate early to take part in celebrations and ensure an on-time departure."

The effort only goes so far. I also noticed the part of this email that says the ticket counters are only located in T2. Then I noticed that the separate check-in reminder email from US says to go to T1 to check a bag. Last night the only sign of US in the T1 ticketing/check-in area was a gigantic one reading "US AIRWAYS HAS MOVED TO TERMINAL 2."

I will be traveling CLT-PHX on US628 today (the flight before 1939), and hope to be present at the gate in PHX to see some of the event before my next flight leaves to SNA. FWIW, I can guest two into the clubs at CLT and PHX...PM me if interested.

Looks like US 1939 is being operated by N152UW, a 2013-delivered A321:

Last US Airways flight leaves PHL

The last US Airways Flight 1939, named for the year that US Airways' predecessor company All American Aviation began, left Philadelphia on time at about 10:15 a.m. Friday. It will stop in Charlotte before going Phoenix and San Francisco.

The Airbus 321 took off with 187 people aboard, leaving behind 72 disappointed standby passengers.

Watched 1939 pull to the gate in CLT...had a table and some microphones set up, as well as water/iced tea and forks for some kind of food (likely cake). Had to go to my gate for my flight to PHX once pax began deplaning. Any big shots from head office on board? Will see about meeting the plane in PHX- depends on where my next gate is.

I'm on

1939 clt-phx. Booked long before I knew this was special. Cake, balloons, camera crews and lots of usair staff at departure gate. As we left two fire trucks provided a water salute, out the window you could see lots of ground crew taking pictures. Staff on plane all wearing flowers, captains announcement about the importance of the flight. Once airborne we each received a large cookie with the usair logo. Eat or save? What will arrival in phx be like?

And of course to celebrate, PHX has unusual weather today :

The first of what could be a busy weekend of thunderstorms and showers began impacting the Phoenix area Friday afternoon.

The National Weather Service issued dust and severe thunderstorm warnings for parts of the Phoenix area that have since expired. The storms brought strong winds and pockets of heavy rain.

Arizona Public Service Co. reported over 3,700 households without power. Salt River Project reported two smaller outages.

There are still some pretty strong storms out there, and I saw several impressive lightning strikes on my drive home.

Hope everyone on the flight gets in/out without any problems.^

I ran into a couple Flyertalkers at the PHX gate-- one that came in from SFO, and was on US 1939 PHX SFO. Hope you enjoyed the quick ceremony!

To fill folks in, a monsoon came through about 1 hour before scheduled arrival, so skies were unseasonably overcast, but the mood at the gate was festive. US served sandwiches, cookies, and distributed a limited number of commemorative cupcakes. A few brief words were said, and boarding began.

Looking forward to the happenings at SFO. We've been on this flight since before the changeover date was announced...when all 4 flights this weekend were US...then something...changed

Cheers.

Would love to hear some live-posting on the SFO-PHL leg tonight! Unfortunately, couldn't put the means together to get out to SFO from DEN and back from PHL for this one.

At SFO

I just checked out the gate area and it seems like they are setting up some festivities. Music is playing and there is some catering ... Looks like lots of US Airways officials. I'm now in the Admirals Club in Terminal 2 and will head over back to Terminal 1 in an hour or so
