A good question regarding changing one of two pax award to purchase

So I have a very complicated itinerary for my daughter and I that I am using miles for March travel. Some we are on same locator, others separate. Some multiple award because I could only get F domestically. I made all these booking in April 2014.

QF is now offering a great sale. If I didn't think it would totally screw things up, I would be better off purchasing my tickets not only b/c its a good deal, I have the money, I get all those elite miles (which I'll probably need since work travel has diminished), I'll get bonus miles since I made XPLAT this year and also will now have a chance for "complimentary" upgrades domestically.

I have no idea what happens to my daughters award that we are joined on (same locator) if I pull out. Does she lose her assigned seats?

MIA-LAX (same locator - Z class)
LAX-MEL-ADL (same locator - X class)

SYD - DFW (separate locators b/c I was able to secure only one Biz award and daughter has separate locator for economy). I do have EF alert set up for another biz - see I'm a good mom. :)

DFW - MIA (same locator Z class)

I would purchase all these same flights for about $1500 for me alone and still use the miles for daughters tix. Would actually only be $200 less removing the mia portion and since I'm now eligible for XPLAT upgrades - why not? Now I'm using savers at 25K ea.

So the question is, would this totally screw up my daughter's tickets. Is there anyway I can change the name on the award ticket on the return from mine to hers for that Biz ticket (I think the answer is no). grrrrrrrrr

The sale only last another day so I need to make some decisions. Unfortunately their sale is really only good round trip (or seems multi - but not one way).

AA can split a two-person itinerary into two separate ones - that's no problem. if you are cancelling your portion of the award, then that business class seat you booked may open up, allowing you to bump up your daughter's booking to business class (no charge if moving from one saaver award to another) during the same call.

Thanks this is good to know, but not sure I want to risk losing that Biz saver award. Too bad the sale isn't producing a nice number for just the one way over. I was able to grab that biz, not when I tried 320 days out, but rather on a chance fluke time I checked a few months ago on the AA site, EF didn't send me an alert either. Maybe it was just the case you describe. Someone put it back just as I was searching. the only Biz that occasionally come up are HA and only one, never two spots, but I'd rather the direct to DFW anyway.

As far as the saver from economy to Business. I'd imagine they would want to redeposit the miles I used for her, cancel her ticket, reticket and take the new more miles out and I'm assuming another tax.
