Where are the sub-forums?

Please review the Wikipost above, the moderator posts at the bottom, and the linked Announcement thread for information on this topic.

Where are the sub-forums?

Sorry if I'm missing something, but the sub-forums for pmAA/pmUS are missing on this page. Not sure if that's only on my end, or if it's some kind of error on FT's end.

It looks like the AA/US consolidated forum is now one of three sub-forums under "American Airlines and US Airways." A very recent change.

Yeah, but both DL and UA show the pm-XX forums in their forums. Also, the forums for pmAA/pmUS both are still open. Doesn't make sense.

It does, but I do have difficulty seeing any need for a 4th AA forum

The consolidated forum seems to be nearly all filled with permanent redirection links , so even that one seems limited in value in itself - am lost on what this even newer forum is for unless it is now finally just having a single forum rather than splitting things

I think that the change is a way of forcing posters to actually think about which sub-forum they should post in -- at least until the AA/US merger is truly finalized, and the Dividend Miles program disappears.

How is having yet another forum going to do that?

With the name of new forum it would seem that all threads should be in this new top level foum

Exactly. And, during the UA/DL mergers, both respective airlines' forums kept what AA/US was doing up to today. I have a feeling it's a bug, especially considering the pmAA/pmUS forums aren't closed.

I hope we can get an official answer from one of the moderators soon.

When 2 of the sub-forums were part of the 3rd forum which had posts, "mark all posts as read" on the 3rd forum also marked all the posts as read in the sub-forums. Which I found annoying, because I tend mark each forum read after I open (in new tabs) the links in that forum that I want to read, but in that case it included the two sub-forums.

Now that the "master" forum has no posts, it seems easier for me, because I can mark each sub-forum "read" independent of any of the others, in any order I want.

So I actually like it beter this way.

I really cannot see a reason for 4 fora for 2 airlines

Well, you cannot post a thread in the new "forum" -- at least, I can't from my BlackBerry. In reality, it seems that the new "forum" is just a directory that lists the three existing forums: PM AA; PM US; and consolidated AA/US.

It seems that a lot of FTers automatically posted new threads in the consolidated forum, and Mods had to move many of those threads to either the PM AA forum, or the PM US forum. Perhaps the new arrangement will reduce the instances of that. Time will tell.

Put me in the "really confused" column.

I see it is "pre-consolidation" rather than "pre-merger" as it formerly was (and in the case of DL/NW and CO/UA). Not a big thing; just one more mouse click.

I don't see how it would; if people were posting in the wrong forum before, rearranging them doesn't seem likely to me to change that

Some sort of explanation would be good

I am also bemused on why the private fora are listed rather than hidden

sosafan Jan 6, 2015 8:31 pm

Whatever happened has a (very minor) benefit for me. It used to be that
the new forum was listed first on the "MyFlyerTalk" page and the old
forum was listed second. But to use the "Mark this forum read" tool,
I had to read the old forum first. (If I read the new forum first and
marked the forum read, all the threads on the old forum would be marked
as read.)

Now on the "MyFlyerTalk" page the old forum is listed first, so I can read
them in order.

Yes, yes, this is really a minor thing.
