US Airways availability on AA.com and visa versa?

I'm trying to book a flight out of HVN (New Haven) to DFW using miles. While I can tell on US airways site that there is availability of award tickets, I cannot see the same availability on AA.com.

I know that award availability varies, but this seems strange. Also, in case it helps, in order to fly anywhere out of HVN, you have to fly to PHL. I can tell that there is availability on AA.com for the PHL to DFW flights - so it appears that the HVN segment is the problem.

Thanks in advance for any ideas!

Are you using US or AA miles?

I was trying to use AA miles. Thanks aztimm but US miles are also a possibility.

When you look on usairways.com are you seeing low or medium awards? If medium I believe those are only available with US miles at this time.

I'm not sure...it says 20k miles on US Airways site. IS that a low or medium justhere?

If you want US-operated award flights with AA miles, you need Economy at 12.5K miles (each way), not 20K, 30K, or 50K.

Hi 3Cforme. Yes, I'm aware that I will need 12.5k miles on AA each way and not 20k or 30k, etc. with US Airways miles. My question was why I am not seeing the same availability on AA.com to use AA miles for these same flights that I can see on USAirways.com

Try posting screenshots of aa.com and usairways.com award searches for your preferred travel dates and maybe the forum can offer more specific trouble-shooting.

I know it's not what you are asking, but as a fellow HVN area flyer, wouldn't it be worth a 45 minute drive to BDL to get a DFW nonstop? HVN-PHL is a tiny turboprop, then you have to grab a shuttle in PHL. Tweed-New Haven is a great no-hassle airport but for a DFW flight driving to BDL is much quicker than connecting in PHL.

Here's what I see on AA, attempting travel from 23 Nov with return on 3 Dec, for example.

And with the same, on US http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/membe...ure9011-us.jpg

As you can see, there is much different availability between the two. I appreciate any suggestions you have 3Cforme (and others, of course)!

We often fly out of BDL, and it's a fairly easy airport. We do like it - but we are also traveling with small kids where HVN can have a significant advantage (and much cheaper parking).

The only difference I can see on the outbound is that aa.com is showing availability on November 17. It looks like all the US dates are medium or higher awards and those won't show on aa.com as you have to use US miles to book them. I think the reason aa.com is showing on that one day is that it is doing a better job than usairways.com of finding a routing. I suspect that if you were using US miles you could call US and get that same routing and probably get them to waive the phone fee as it's not showing on line. Plus it is 3 flights so which is less hassle, the drive suggested or 3 flights with kids?

For the return, for the aa.com portion you are showing, the availability matches as the 3rd is the only day that US is showing low availability.

Off topic, but I hope the UI expert at US who thought that the best way to show award availability would be 4 slightly different shades of blue finds a new role at the new US/AA, outside web design.

He's the same guy doing cell phone coverage maps for 4G/3G/2G service!

Thanks justhere for the explanation. That really helps!
