AA (legacy US Airways) Airbus A321-200 "321"

The older legacy US Airways Airbus A321-200 is shown as "321" in AA schedules. (Newer legacy AA A321s are listed as "32B" as they have "Sharklet" wingtip devices installed, and include two class A321S and A321H ETOPS and three class A321T transcontinental versions.)

NOTE: in accordance with AA “Project Oasis” all A321-200s will be retrofitted between 2019 and 2021. Business / First cabins will use the seats found today in the AA A319, with reduced seat pitch and recline. MCE and MC will have the Rockwell Collins slimline Meridian seats with reduced pitch and recline. Lavatories will be ultra-slim Rockwell Collins Spacewall lavs. See Oasis: New seats & less pitch, WiFi IFE & power all 737 and A321 2019-21 for further information.

As conversion begins we will start a new thread, and you should be able to see which configuration a particular aircraft has by referencing the (unofficial) American Airlines Fleet Site here.

The legacy US Airways A321s are currently unmodified, though a few have been reupholstered, have new carpeting and bulkhead liners. These have less seat pitch and recline in the First cabin, no Main Cabin Extra seats other than the few with greater seat pitch (e.g. bulkhead / 5, Exit rows 9, 10, 22, and 23) and have neither seatback IFE nor at seat power provisions. They do have GoGo WiFi and free streaming audio and video entertainment for your WiFi capable devices..

Note 10 ABC (fixed armrests with deploying trays) or F, 23 A and F seem to be preferred by some members.

Please see AA to install same new seats in 737-800s and A321s but add more of them for information on the plan to install new B/E Aerospace Meridian slimline seats in a denser pattern and 30" seat pitch in Main Cabin in 2019. (We will dedicate a thread to the CIP / modified A321 when that aircraft becomes current with the AA fleet.)

The A320-321 refurbishment thread may be read here.

Luckily I only end up on these aircraft on shorter routes on routes up and down the east coast to/from CLT but even then the FAs seemed really embarrassed about these being on short routes. Last week I was on JFK-CLT and the reverse in F and I heard a couple of passengers asking the FA where the power was and they apologized for it being "a really old plane". Have to say the FAs on both flights, but particularly JFK-CLT were amazing (I DM'd AA on Twitter to ensure one crew got recognition) and more than made up for the early 2000s throwback experience.....luckily my upcoming JFK-CLT-JFK flights next week are on 738s. Yay.

Row 9 doesn’t recline. 10abcf seats have extra legroom and recline. 10 de don’t have extra legroom

Row 9 also has narrower seats. If you are any wider than a toothpick, avoid them.

They are as narrow as 10 abc. So not too bad

If I can't get 10A or C I'll take 9D and E next. I like the legroom, the underseat storage and if you're in 9E you can lean to the right and have elbow room.

I saw a few comments on row 22 but didn't see the answer I was looking for.
I tend to go to the lav a lot so I actually like the proximity. Last time I was in this config, I booked 22C but found the solid armrests too narrow for my frame so I asked the FA and was able to move to 22B which had an armrest on the left side you could move and the seat was comfortable with it raised. (right side had solid armrest with your tray table)
This upcoming flight 22C was taken so I wanted to avoid 22B while 22D and E were both open.
Does 22D or 22E have the movable armrests like 22B? I wasn't sure if the seats were 'mirrored' or 'copy/pasted' in layout.

I'm on an Oasis LUS321 PHX/CLT in a few weeks. Seat Guru's map doesn't match up to the seat map on aa.com. What is the better row, 11 or 24 as far as a window seat and legroom? I'm of course hoping my upgrade clears but we know how that usually goes.

Is there an Oasis thread for this aircraft? If so I couldn’t find it. I was in 10A on the version with great legroom. They switched equipment and now 10A must be one of the worst seats on the plane. No window, and the seat is at least a couple inches narrower than a normal coach seat due to the intrusion of the door mechanism. It’s outrageous they can call this MCE.

Booking on a flight on one of the LUS A321 today. First time flying AA as a long time Delta/JetBlue fan.
I chose seat 23F (for now), which I could choose for free. Here are my questions
1: Does 23F have a window? Not the small round ones on the doors, like an actual window?
2: Just how narrow is the seat? I'd guess not that much smaller right?
3: Why is it $75 extra to choose 22DE but free to choose 23F? It seems like 23F is a winner in all aspects compared to 22DE.

1) 23F has a real window (row 22 is where the actual door is).
2)The seat is just a little bit narrower than a normal seat since the tray table is in the armrest.
3) This is where it gets a bit strange. Before there was free booze in Main Cabin Extra (MCE), 23A and 23F were considered MCE seats, just like all of row 22. When they started offering free booze they decided to make 23A and 23F just regular exit row seats, I assume they did this so that there would not be confusion as to why 23A and 23F would get free booze but 23B,23C, 23D, and 23E would not (23 B, C, D, E have no extra legroom so were never considered MCE or premium in any way). NOW though - there's no booze (free or otherwise) at all in the main cabin because of COVID-19 so who knows why they're still charging.

And they've just kicked me out of my seat and are now charging me 36 dollars.
Worth it?

For 23F? If you care about unlimited legroom and having a real window, I would say yes... it's a great seat.

Ended up buying it because it has so many great reviews. Also because 36 is my lucky number, so I was actually willing to pay that specific amount. Anything more I might have turned it down.
