Problem can’t find any reasonable award price…most are pricing between 457K and 600K. However, I can find award space on BA for oneway awards pricing at 57K—which good. Based on this, we are thinking of booking a oneway and then purchasing a oneway cash return separately. Question is can I do this? Get an award ticket and then purchasing a cash ticket for the return? This would be two separate bookings obviously. I am AA EP if that helps.

BA is great to find cheap awards but you will have to pay lost in taxes.
Being EP you have SWU, purchase Premium Econ tickets, and apply SWU for your flights, but being EP you knew that.

If you go for the one way on BA, I would recommend trying to use BA for the flight to the US rather than from.

Ex-UK the surcharge is £450.00 ( ~ $568 ) whilst ex US the surcharge is $970

🤦🏽‍♂️Honestly, I forgot about SWUs, most of my travel is on business and usually in J anyway, so never give much thought about upgrades and I have sadly let SWUs go to waste in the past. Thanks for that reminder.

Consider:
1. BA charges exorbitant fees in AAwards.
2. One-way fares usually 60-90% the cost of return.

Yes i did notice the extortionate fees on BA AAwards.

Good advice that, thanks!
