Actually Jim, it was. I was based at LGA. It lasted for a long time until the fleet changed to not having dedicated Shuttle a/c.

It must by my fading memory because I don't remember US ever having standby aircraft and crews to pull out if needed. I do remember that the Trump Shuttle still used the 727s bought from EA but not the excess to have spares (with crews) in DCA, LGA and BOS.

Actually only the LGA legs are legacy Shuttle. US had "Hourly Best" service between BOS-EWR/PHL/DCA with the mainline fleet while they operated the Shuttle for Citibank. It wasn't until they finally purchased it outright that BOS-DCA was brought into the fold. Non-shuttle DCA-BOS always left from H1 in the Interim Terminal.

The first 320's went right to the Shuttle to replace the 727's in all Y. It wasn't until right after 9/11 that they tinkered with the fleet to match demand (just like DL did), added F, and the finally threw in the towel on the dedicated fleet.

Thanks for the correction and verifying that there's no impediment to adding routes to the "Shuttle" moniker other than tradition. Whether that's actually done or not in the future is anyone's guess.
