Speculation: New Routes, Hubs, Flights (2017 Onward)
Because there is community interest in having a purely speculative discussion about whether other airports will pop up to become focus cities or hubs, new routes, etc. the following new thread has been amalgamated on this topic.Note:
Going: 9 A330-300, ER190, some older 757-200 and 8 767-300ER (leaving 17), MD-80
Coming: Remainder of 16 Boeing 26 787-8, 22 Boeing 787-9 (began later 2016). A320 family - 100 A321neo, and B737-800 (100 737-MAX8) aircraft.
See Cranky Flier article on 2016 fleet changes, AA-HP-US. Link.

Speculation fun time: Will xxx be the next AA focus city / hub? (consolidated)

JonNYC is offering some thoughts on PHL-MXP next year:
Interesting tidbit from JonNYC on Twitter
I wonder if this would be to test the waters to eventually cut JFK-MXP if Air Italy joins the TATL JV? Does AA have a spare widebody plane for this?

As initially reported by JonNYC and appears to be confirmed on CAPA, PHL-MEX is gone in January. So they gave this route 4 months before announcing the suspension, 2 of which during the slower Fall shoulder season. There was quite a bit of optimism around this route and while I do not have numbers I thought there was a reasonable PHL-MEX PDEW that could support the flight.

I'm not really sure where to put this, but FYI for any Seattle travelers......looks like AA is heavily using the new hardstand gates in the new D Annex......meaning buses to get to the terminal

Well this is interesting with it being so close to MIA.

Yeah. Seems like the only thing this could possibly mean is (even) more robust service to CUN from the hubs and some more non-hub service (BDL, CMH-like places in addition to the existing seasonal BOS, RDU, BNA etc) primarily for the beach market but bolstered by Interjet connections. But I don't really understand why they'd design the network to send customers to Interjet instead of keeping them on AA all the way via MIA.
(But I highly doubt they'll rebuild the SJU hub.)
