Speculation: New Routes, Hubs, Flights (2017 Onward)
Because there is community interest in having a purely speculative discussion about whether other airports will pop up to become focus cities or hubs, new routes, etc. the following new thread has been amalgamated on this topic.

Note:

Going: 9 A330-300, ER190, some older 757-200 and 8 767-300ER (leaving 17), MD-80

Coming: Remainder of 16 Boeing 26 787-8, 22 Boeing 787-9 (began later 2016). A320 family - 100 A321neo, and B737-800 (100 737-MAX8) aircraft.

See Cranky Flier article on 2016 fleet changes, AA-HP-US. Link.

Also see: HELP DESK: General questions about aircraft equipment, fleet, seats, IFE, etc.

Speculation fun time: Will xxx be the next AA focus city / hub? (consolidated)

I wasn't aware the 319 had the engine power to take off from MEX in the summertime

319 has the best takeoff performance of the A32S family (excluding A318).

I read somewhere that due to cooperation between CZ and AA, AA will fly DFW-CAN or ORD-CAN on a 4 weekly basis (presumably B787-8). Anyone else have more insight?

DFW-LIH coming back 2019?

Not sure how DFW-LIH has done(is doing), anyone know if they might bring that back for 2019? so much nicer than connecting via PHX on a 757.

For those who haven't seen, JonNYC has been tweeting about some rumored new and relaunched routes. Looks like some MIA - secondary Brazil (REC, POA, FOR, SSA, CWB...?) routes could be coming back, and a new southern hemisphere route (LAX - MEL anyone?) could be in the cards as well.

new Southern hemisphere route could also be a new route to somewhere in South America, doesn't have to mean a new route that is both southern AND Pacific like to Australia.

Per AA's network planning guy, AA happy with Asia routes for now. Don't think there will be more routes in the foreseeable future?
Australia should expand if JV approved with QF- probably LAX-MEL.
Resumption of Brazil routes may be due to Brazil Open Skies being signed just recently? Also, those transatlantic 767's need to be used in the winter...

If the revised AA-QF JV is approved, LAX-MEL/BNE on AA’s 787-9s will happen. QF wants to adjust LAX-Australia capacity to expand elsewhere.

I'd like to see PHL-SNA. Not like it's ever gonna happen within a reasonable timeframe though.

Although UA do has SNA-EWR.

I'm wondering if a return to POA would also mean a return to VCP, since the POA flight stopped there? The idea of a return to strong coverage from MIA to all of those points in Brazil is very exciting.

Wasn't POA bundled with CWB? I thought VCP was nonstop and purely retaliation for Azul starting FLL-VCP - not because MIA - VCP had any merits of its own.
