Speculation: New Routes, Hubs, Flights (2017 Onward)
Because there is community interest in having a purely speculative discussion about whether other airports will pop up to become focus cities or hubs, new routes, etc. the following new thread has been amalgamated on this topic.

Note:

Going: 9 A330-300, ER190, some older 757-200 and 8 767-300ER (leaving 17), MD-80

Coming: Remainder of 16 Boeing 26 787-8, 22 Boeing 787-9 (began later 2016). A320 family - 100 A321neo, and B737-800 (100 737-MAX8) aircraft.

See Cranky Flier article on 2016 fleet changes, AA-HP-US. Link.

Also see: HELP DESK: General questions about aircraft equipment, fleet, seats, IFE, etc.

Speculation fun time: Will xxx be the next AA focus city / hub? (consolidated)

Oh I've read them, I just don't buy it. A public company should not really make false representations about how viable a route is, and then do a 180 turn and explain they are canceling it abruptly because of how much money they are losing. It's still more believable to me that post merger AA started negotiations with Israel and couldn't reach a reasonable settlement. That said, it's not worth the debate as it is unprovable.

Every airline says they only operate profitable routes, and then says how much money they have lost on a route for years when they cancel it. The truth lies somewhere in between.

Back to the old, always cited issue of AA not wanting to pay TWA's 102 employees claims in TLV... it's $13M.

That's really not a huge amount if AA really saw promise in TLV.

I've slowly seen some mainline flights come back to PHL when AA pulls down the schedule in the winter. I checked the last Monday in Feb. and found more mainline in PHL than I remember in previous years. Most notably, and increase in capacity on PHL-AUS/MSY

2/26/18 - Mainline only (minus the 190)
PHL-RDU: 1x 319, 1x 738
PHL-DTW: 2x 319
PHL-STL: 1x 319
PHL-PVD: 1x 319
PHL-PIT: 2x 320, 1x 319
PHL-MSP: 2x 319
PHL-MCI: 1x 319
PHL-AUS: 2x 319
PHL-BDL: 1x 320
PHL-MSY: 2x 319, 1x 320

AA is adding PWM-LGA starting in April with 2x daily flights. Looks like theyll be ERJs, which sucks as DL runs two cabin RJs, but its good to see some additional service to Maine. Still holding out for PWM-ORD someday...

With a number of flights in and out of PWM, you would assume that traffic could support an E-170/175 and not a ERJ.

PWM sees quite the wide variety of metal on AA.

E175, E145, CR7, CR2, A319, A320

I don't see the point, unless the point is to kneecap Icelandair and WOW Air in this market and onward connections to other European points.

Pretty sure that's the point.

WOW and Icelandair are trying to LCC the fortress at DFW. I don't think AA is going to let that happen without a fight.

Only 1000 miles shorter than DFW-LHR, that's a beating on a 757. Wow.

DFW-KEF is near maximum range of the 757, especially on the westbound. If headwinds are strong or thunderstorms near DFW prepare for diversions.

Also, ORD-MAN is going seasonal.
And they’re introducing CLT-TUS.
