(ex-Air Pacific)

NOTE: AA seems not to be able to see FJ award inventory. Try calling AA Australia (+61 2-9101-1948 ) then press 4 - or the New Zealand number (+64 09-308-4014) as an alternative - although the call center is actually in Suva, Fiji (I believe it's our old South African agency friend Mindpearl) - as they can see the inventory reliably, and you can book. Or, put the FJ segments on hold so you can flesh out the award afterward and/or pay the fees in USD through the US call center.

Air Pacific (46% Qantas owned, 51% Fiji government owned) rebranded as Fiji Airways (as of June 2013 - follow the topic and changes here: Air Pacific becoming Fiji Airways (again) & securing three A330-200s (2013) in the Other Asian, Australian and South Pacific Frequent Flyer Programs. In 2016, an A330-300 initiated service NAN-LAX, and in 2017 NAN-SFO.

New aircraft, configuration, new baggage limits etc. for 2016 are in this FT thread.

Fiji Airways is still an AA partner (as well as a codeshare partner of AS, CX, EY, IE, NZ and QF). The partnership has not changed - one earns redeemable (Award) AA miles flying as FJ, AA EQ miles can be earned if flown as AA or QF codeshares (often more expensive); no EQ miles if flown as AS or CX codeshares (as FJ is not a oneworld member).

Business (née Tambua) Class in both (three) A330-200 and (one) -300: 24 Zodiac / Weber 7811 8 degree from horizontal angled lie-flats with A/C and USB, 15.4" screen with Panasonic eX2 AVOD in 2 x 2 x 2 configuration. (The SQ leased 747 offered 28 Tabua seats - not much of a loss here.)

Economy (née Pacific Voyager) Class: 249 (289 in-300) Weber 5751 slim-line with IFE, A/C and USB power in a 2 x 4 x 2 configuration with 31-32" pitch and 7.5" total recline (6" seat back movement, 1.5" seat base movement) and 9" Panasonic touchscreen AVOD with controls in the seatback (not armrest). (747 offered 430 with 32" in Pacific Voyager, a major seat capacity reduction.)

Starting your trip in Nadi in. Business Class you will be able to access the new Fiji Airways Premier Lounge (but as FJ is not a oneworld airline, status alone won’t get you in).

"Bula", pronounced mboo-lah, short for "ni sa bula", merely is the typical Fijian "hello" and "welcome"; it's not a class of service. Fiji Airways Premier Lounge is the name for their NAN lounge and VIP club; it is costly and bureaucratically challenging to join - but if you're flying FJ a lot, it offers an additional checked in bag, lounge access and other perqs.[/quote]

Thanks!
Ni sa bula! Io (yes), you can earn AAdvantage miles on FJ / Air Fiji. Sea (no), they won't be Elite Qualifying miles; vosoti au, they'll only be redeemable miles.

But you may be able to earn EQM if you book the Qantas codeshare, as QF offers earning miles on several non-oneworld miles as an exception. How many would be determined by Qantas' earning scheme - best asked in the Qantas | Frequent Flyer forum.

Ni sa moce.

Qantas's scheme ( there is only one Qantas ) would have no impact on AA earnings on a Qantas codeshare. AA earnings on a Qantas codeshare is something for the AA forum and surely not best asked in a forum for another programme

The details are listed at http://www.aa.com/i18n/AAdvantage/ea...nes/qantas.jsp

For AA earning on Qantas codeshares there is no listed exclusion other than for codeshares on jetstar

As long as booked in an eligible fare basis will earn AA miles. For economy class travel , I would think carefully about how much extra it is worth paying to earn potentially 25% miles ( albeit qualifying ) given that most Fiji Airways fares will offer 100% in economy class with the lowest 2 offering 75%

Using aa.com, of course (duh - I shouldnt post so soon after dinner). That's a good correction; AFAIK, the English used in the USA isn't, though it is correct in most Anglophone countries.

Of course, I err on occasion, given English is not my natal language and I tend to wander among versions given when and how I learned English.

I don't get the confusion in "Earn miles when flying on Fiji Airways marketed and operated flights"

How is there confusion on which airline you are flying to earn miles?
And, since you are on an AA.com webpage referring to earning miles on Fiji Air flights, why would it be talking about earning anything other than AA miles for these flights?

Does anyone know how long it typically take for an award with Fiji airways segments to ticket?
Called and booked it yesterday morning with AA miles over the phone with AA Reservations.

Im on J NAN-APW-HNL-PDX-DCA.
with NAN-HNL on fiji and then Alaska from HNL to DCA

It's showing on the AA webiste as on request for 24+ hours, when do I get concerned?

Bula!!

No worries yet. Even three or four days would not be worrying, or even more if your flight is months away. But read this thread to see how your award request should progress, and why:.

http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/ameri...solidated.html

And you both have a weekend coming up as well as a certain "seqa na leqa" (much like the Caribbean laid back "no problem!" attitude .)

This is what happened with us. We booked nearly a year in advance and after weeks when it didn't ticket we started calling AA to bug them. It worked ; )

OK so it's now it's booked so it was:

Aug 20th On the phone for 30-45 minutes, requested
August 25th email received with eticket #

$254 for oneway from NAN to DCA in J and 175K miles. it appears they had to break it into two awards:

UP62X5B NA-S PAC BUS OW TKT 8/25/15 -62,500 0 -62,500
UP25A DOM FIRST/BUS OW TKT 8/25/15 -25,000 0 -25,000
UP62X5B NA-S PAC BUS OW TKT 8/25/15 -62,500 0 -62,500
UP25A DOM FIRST/BUS OW TKT 8/25/15 -25,000 0 -25,000

Should it have been broken in two awards?

Bula! Two awards? What rationale did they offer for that? It should be two NA-S PAC North America - South Pacific awards, full stop, without ripping you off for 50,000 more miles, AFAIK!
