AA Boeing 737-800, type 738D
(configured 16F, 144Y, including 30 MCE - including Exit rows). Current seats seem to be Zodiac 5751 slimline seats.

All aircraft have been converted to the type 738K Oasis/Kodiak configuration

Archived content
Under “Project Oasis” this type will ultimately be refitted to 737 MAX 8 “Project Oasis” standards, with 170 seats: 16 F / J seats with reduced pitch and recline, and 156 ultra-slimline Rockwell Collins (previously B/E Aerospace) Meridian seats with 30” pitch in Main Cabin, 33”pitch in Main Cabin Extra and ultra-slimline lavs, onboard served WiFi IFE (no seatback) IFE, etc.

All 738s delivered prior to 10 Dec 2013 are equipped with center ceiling mounted drop down screens;

738s delivered on or after 10 Dec 2013 currently have seat-back AVOD and 110 VAC plus USB seat power. The IFE will ultimately be replaced by WiFi served IFE.

Link to AA fleet list - 737-800 configuration information by registration ("tail") numbers.

738s (until modified to 7M8 standards) are laid out:

First / Business rows 3-6 (no rows 1 or 2)

Economy from rows 7-30; MCE from rows 7-9, and MCE exit rows 14 and 15. Row 15 has full recline.

Will 15 have the same recline at rows 7-9 or just extra leg room?

MCE rows 7,8 and 9 are all open on a future flight. Four of us. Traveling with two minors and my wife. Best to take the bulkhead (row 7)? Or one back in row 8? Is it a hard bulkhead?

If the seat maps show row 7 then yes there's a hard bulkhead.

IIRC, there's a cutout for the folks sitting on the aisle.

IMO, best seat on these birds is15A or 15F...

Window seat in the exit row and it fully reclines.

Thanks but again traveling with the kids. Better in rows 8 and 9?

8 and 9 are the same. If you are traveling with 2 kids you can take aisle seat in row 7 and assign middle and window to your kids

thanks - just curious on thoughts of 8 and 9 as better than 7 given two little kids with you.

I always choose 8/9 when my kids are with me. Why? Because, as you know, kids need a lot of ancillary "stuff" when traveling... snacks, entertainment, books, etc. In row 7, you have no floor storage, which is annoying for the frequent AA-delayed departures and long taxis.

YMMV.

Does the bulkhead in front of Row 7 or Row 8 if that's where MCE starts limit your legroom at all? Like on United 757 28Js Extra Space seats where they can't sell it as extra space because it's so tight. Or is it normal bulkhead easy in and out?

If your 737 has row 7 - there will be hard bulkhead that goes all the way down and legroom is limited. If first row is 8 - there is no separation between first class and economy and there is plenty of legroom
theboss7593 and AANYC1981 like this.

Upped my Basic Economy to MCE.

*DATA POINT* The difference in purchasing the MCE seat was $8. $91 purchased from E- vs. $83 if being purchased from E. but I saved $100 on the E- Fare vs. E.

I found despite flying 40 plus segments last year I didn't use all of my AMEX credit so at least this will kick off a quick $91 to start the year.

So I've never flown Basic Economy, now that I purchased the MCE do I get priority boarding or am I still group 9? Hardly matters as I traditionally wait till everyone has cattled on the plane even when I fly J as we all spend enough time sitting. but just curious nevertheless...

I have seen conflicting posts.
Row 13.
Does the whole row not recline due to exit row behind it?
Or only the window seat does not recline?
