NOTE: The last C45 777-223ER was retrofitted to C37 and Premium Economy at KPAE and returned to service 11 December 2018. Please see the new “Which 777-200ER?” thread here.
- Two J seats, two configurations as of 1/1/2019: Two, 37J Zodiac in 20 772 and Super Diamond in 27.
The final two Boeing 777-200 left to be retrofit (aircraft registrations N759AN and N795AN) entered the shop at the end of November. With these out of service, all 777-200s operating going forward will have the following configuration:
37 Business (1-2-1 arrangement)
24 Premium Economy (2-4-2)
66 Main Cabin Extra (3-4-3)
146 Economy (3-4-3)

NOTE: On aa.com, seat charts make it difficult to identify which 777 has Zodiac or B/E Aerospace seats. See post #1 for the AA seat diagrams of the 777 Business cabins.
If the available (blue) seats have a notch in the front signifying aft (backward) facing seats, it’s a Zodiac “Concept D” Business Suite equipped aircraft.
If the available (blue) seats have NO notch in the front (are perfectly square), it’s a B/E Aerospace Super Diamond Solo equipped aircraft.

Longboater states the last 777 pre-CIP changes to CIP flight was 772 MIA-SCL July 5, 2017. The last old "NGBC" aircraft went to HAECO HKG 23 July 2017 for refitting.
The Points Guy (link) states AA will begin retrofitting 772s with three rows of 2-4-2 seating Premium Economy in June 2017 and finish in Q2 of 2018. AA will treat these as Main Cabin Extra for sales purposes until 15 Dec 2017.
There are 47 Boeing 777-223ER total in the AA fleet. They may be as follows:
13 refurbished 777-200ER (AA coded "772") with 45 Business seats with full flat solo suites with all aisle access, forward and aft facing, with the Zodiac Concept D Business Suite in Business, 55 Main Cabin Extra and 160 Economy seats. Link to SeatGuru "version 2" seat chart.
6 refurbished 777-200ER (AA coded "772") with with 37 Business seats with full flat solo suites with all aisle access, forward and aft facing, with the Zodiac Concept D Business Suite in Business, 58 Main Cabin Extra and 194 Economy seats. Link to SeatGuru "version 3" with 37 J seats.
The remainder of the 28 777-200ER fleet (currently AA coded as "772") is comprised of aircraft with 37 B/E Aerospace Super Diamond Solo all forward facing (at an angle to the fuselage center line) Business class, 58 MCE and 194 Economy seats. (No seat chart on SeatGuru yet, but the "Version 3" will probably suffice for MCE and Economy.)"

Zodiac Concept D Business Suite seat production problem slowed the CIP / refit to a crawl. (The Zodiac contract was terminated and a suit filed against Zodiac 24 Sep 2015.)
The airframes required infrastructure changes to support the new seats etc. and the reconfiguration was accomplished at the airframe's scheduled maintenance "C" check (performed by HAECO at HKG):
Widebody "C" Checks
Because of the complexity of widebody aircraft, all "C" checks are "Heavy C" checks. The complete airframe inspection and service is done every 24 - 30 months. It takes approximately 10,000 man-hours and from two to four weeks to accomplish a widebody "C" check.

Flight not showing W seat map?
Traveling BCN-MIA on July 4 on AA 113. The seat map for W is showing all seats booked but EF shows W7. And EF gives an error when trying to pull the W seat map. Been this way for a few days.
Seems too early for any sort of equipment swap so I'm guessing just an IT glitch.
Any ideas?

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I don't think AA's 772 PE retrofit will be complete for a few more months. Aren't PE seats still being sold as MCE until then?

There are two versions of the 772 on seatgure, one that has some rearward-facing seats, and another that has all forward-facing seats. I have personally never seen/experienced the version with the all forwarding-facing seats - is that an old version? Or actually a new version?

Both are lie flat. Most here prefer the all forward facing ones. Other aspects such as IFE etc. are pretty similar.

SeatGuru... SMH. For the longest time, they keep the old 16F/37J 772 seat map up. They finally adjusted but then overlooked the 37J forward-rear Zodiac 772's.
So now they have the 45J Zodiac seat map (v1), which is being phased out to 37J Zodiac, anyway. (Only 12 of these 45J planes are still flying... the rest will be refitted to 37J, PE, 3-4-3 MCE later in 2018).
And they have the 37J Super Diamond (all forward facing) with PE added as v2.
Everything behind the business cabin is the same on the 37J Zodiac and Super Diamond 772's. There are just 7 37J Zodiac 772's flying.
So now they have the 45J Zodiac seat map (v1), which is being phased out to 37J Zodiac, anyway. (Only 12 of these 45J planes are still flying... the rest will be refitted to 37J, PE, 3-4-3 MCE later in 2018).

My wife and I are flying JFK-MXP in coach this October. Thanks to my wife's status with AA, we're seated in Main Cabin Extra. What seats should we select, and what should we expect to find? The seatmap is showing 9-abreast in MCE, but not certain if that means they are Premium Economy seats or old 9-abreast economy...of course if there's an equipment swap, all bets are off. But thanks in advance for any guidance or comments.

Sorry if I'm posting this in the wrong thread (quite confused with all the different 772 layouts).
Booked on AA71 from FRA to DFW and have assigned 17K/L for us. Is it still the case that the bulkhead has a cut-out? Or would we be better off in 18J/L hoping the middle seat will be empty? I couldn't find any pictures anywhere and TPG doesn't help as I cant tell if the bulkhead is open at the bottom or not.
