NOTE: The last C45 777-223ER was retrofitted to C37 and Premium Economy at KPAE and returned to service 11 December 2018. Please see the new “Which 777-200ER?” thread here.
- Two J seats, two configurations as of 1/1/2019: Two, 37J Zodiac in 20 772 and Super Diamond in 27.
The final two Boeing 777-200 left to be retrofit (aircraft registrations N759AN and N795AN) entered the shop at the end of November. With these out of service, all 777-200s operating going forward will have the following configuration:
37 Business (1-2-1 arrangement)
24 Premium Economy (2-4-2)
66 Main Cabin Extra (3-4-3)
146 Economy (3-4-3)

NOTE: On aa.com, seat charts make it difficult to identify which 777 has Zodiac or B/E Aerospace seats. See post #1 for the AA seat diagrams of the 777 Business cabins.
If the available (blue) seats have a notch in the front signifying aft (backward) facing seats, it’s a Zodiac “Concept D” Business Suite equipped aircraft.
If the available (blue) seats have NO notch in the front (are perfectly square), it’s a B/E Aerospace Super Diamond Solo equipped aircraft.

Longboater states the last 777 pre-CIP changes to CIP flight was 772 MIA-SCL July 5, 2017. The last old "NGBC" aircraft went to HAECO HKG 23 July 2017 for refitting.
The Points Guy (link) states AA will begin retrofitting 772s with three rows of 2-4-2 seating Premium Economy in June 2017 and finish in Q2 of 2018. AA will treat these as Main Cabin Extra for sales purposes until 15 Dec 2017.
There are 47 Boeing 777-223ER total in the AA fleet. They may be as follows:
13 refurbished 777-200ER (AA coded "772") with 45 Business seats with full flat solo suites with all aisle access, forward and aft facing, with the Zodiac Concept D Business Suite in Business, 55 Main Cabin Extra and 160 Economy seats. Link to SeatGuru "version 2" seat chart.
6 refurbished 777-200ER (AA coded "772") with with 37 Business seats with full flat solo suites with all aisle access, forward and aft facing, with the Zodiac Concept D Business Suite in Business, 58 Main Cabin Extra and 194 Economy seats. Link to SeatGuru "version 3" with 37 J seats.
The remainder of the 28 777-200ER fleet (currently AA coded as "772") is comprised of aircraft with 37 B/E Aerospace Super Diamond Solo all forward facing (at an angle to the fuselage center line) Business class, 58 MCE and 194 Economy seats. (No seat chart on SeatGuru yet, but the "Version 3" will probably suffice for MCE and Economy.)"
NOTE:,Premium Economy seating to be added (completion June 2018) resulting in loss of some Economy seats.

Zodiac Concept D Business Suite seat production problem slowed the CIP / refit to a crawl. (The Zodiac contract was terminated and a suit filed against Zodiac 24 Sep 2015.)
The airframes required infrastructure changes to support the new seats etc. and the reconfiguration was accomplished at the airframe's scheduled maintenance "C" check (performed by HAECO at HKG):
Widebody "C" Checks
Because of the complexity of widebody aircraft, all "C" checks are "Heavy C" checks. The complete airframe inspection and service is done every 24 - 30 months. It takes approximately 10,000 man-hours and from two to four weeks to accomplish a widebody "C" check.

for a couple in the B/E plane is it better to have 2 window seats 3a/4a for example or get a center seat? Looks like you have to lean forward a lot to talk...

On the 77W center seats, you do have to lean forward a good bit to see your companion. Not in the Super Diamond seats.

777 PE Refurbs
It's great to see that folks are updating the wiki with new information. Just a word of caution that PE refurbs are only occurring at PAE at this time. Someone has been adding visits to TUL as well.
For example, N782AN is on its way to PAE right now but is already erroneously listed as having completed the PE refurb. It had a visit to TUL last month that was unrelated to the PE refurb project.

And Seatguru still doesn't have these PE configurations loaded. Amazing for a major airplane coverage site (but not really, given their history).

I might be in the extreme minority, but I have actually enjoyed my experiences in the the concept D seat mainly owing to the zero gravity position which I have found very easy to sleep in. According to flightradar24 my LAX-NRT on Friday will be operated by N770AN which is a win for me.

I might be in the extreme minority, but I have actually enjoyed my experiences in the the concept D seat mainly owing to the zero gravity position which I have found very easy to sleep in. According to flightradar24 my LAX-NRT on Friday will be operated by N770AN which is a win for me.
Once they get the connected/rocking fixed, I think this seat will be equally as good as the Super Diamond, but still slightly behind the Cirrus on the 77W.

I'm flying this route on Saturday and am in that exact seat. I've been checking Expert Flyer (J is COMPLETELY full so my upgrade will NOT clear unless someone knows something I don't know about the odds of people just not showing up and seats magically opening) and it's still showing the "normal" configuration. Does expert flyer EVER update to the new config or do I literally just have to look the day before to see the plane tail number assigned? Will the AA seat map update or is it just going to show the old config too?
With the 787 PE cabin, since it wasn't a reconfig it just showed those seats as main cabin extra but you could obviously tell they were the right seats.

Tracket72: you should be able to keep your actual seat since the new PE seats is considered MCE until they start selling PE on that route, which will be Dec 15 for most routes, just report back about this please.
David Ocamb, you will be able to see the new configuration around T24~T36 and you can check the actual aircraft registration number at T48~T36 on flighradar24, make sure you select seats in row 13, 14 and 15, A, C, D, E, G, H, J and L.

I too am curious to hear about their experience, my gf and I have 13K and 13L booked for DFW-OGG, and if it switches to 772 I am curious to what happens. It appears there is no 13K on the PE version it instead goes to 13J and 13L, but there is no 13J on the non-pe 772 we are on so at least we have that going for us.

how far in advance are you guys seeing the PE cabin on the AA seat map? I am on LAX to NRT and I see the last 3 days the 772 had PE and alternating zodiac. My flight's seatmap doesn't show the PE/MCE config, so I am not sure if I am just not scheduled for it or will I find out within a few days when I fly 11/22... flight radar doesn't show the plane yet.
