Does anyone know what the 26 means in the Y26 fare basis code (or F26, Y26UP, etc.)? I've been told it means you can only use the fare on AA, but why use "26" for this?
Where can I find these detailed fare codes?
1) Booking on AA.com, before purchasing you can click on the "Detailed Fare Rules" link. This will reveal the detailed fare codes and rules (which can even vary by segment).
2) You can use Google Matrix ITA. (Related FT thread ITA Software Matrix Airfare Search Consolidated Information and Help Thread).
3) ExpertFlyer to determine detailed fare codes by matching flights and price. ExpertFlyer offers a five day trial, otherwise it's by paid subscription. (Related FT thread: ExpertFlyer.com - Master Information and Updates Thread.)

Interpreting AA Fare Basis Codes (merged threads)
These fare code tables (split for size and readability) appear accurate as of March, 2019. Courtesy of www.cwsi.net.
NOTE: Basic Economy fares no longer allow “buying up” to a higher fare class, according to recent reports.

Until someone more knowledgeable comes around, you may want to have a look at the Wiki - here - where a number of fare codes are explained.
You might also still be able to go to the Refunds site, enter your ticket number and before actually requesting a refund be able to read the detailed fare rules if you did not do so as you booked.

:-: :-: Google can be quite useful for that.
The Wiki will serve for decoding what the fare descriptor means - most of the time.

How do I tell my Fare Type / Booking Codes
It seems like AA did a website upgrade and the fare type / booking code information for flights is now gone.
Previously, I would log on and click on the my trips section of the site, I would choose a specific record locator and then I would have the ticket information which would include the fare type (ie. A, F, P, W, O, G, etc.)
I can still look at the details of my trip but I no longer see what the fare type / booking code is?
Anyone know where I can find this information?
Thanks

AA: Deciphering Fare Code Basis
I have a couple itineraries I am looking at for a flight in biz to PTY in I, departing from SFO (via JFK in I and MIA in A) and returning to PHX in A (via MIA in I and JFK in A). The fare code basis for the outbound flight is SNW2SQC1, and that for the return flight is VLW4MQC1. I'm trying to get a better understanding of AA's fare code basis, can anyone tell me how to decipher these?

The first character indicates the booking class. I in this case would be discounted business - most likely for international fares (e.g. DUB-HNL). The other characters encode some information about minimum stay etc but that's more of an optional thing that the airlines use to make it easier for themselves.

The number of combos of advance book, minimum/maximum stay, refund fees, change fees are endless especially on I and D fares.
