I must add: I find people living in San Diego very very strange (I lived most of my life in NYC, Chicago, Boston, and DC). San Diego is so inefficient and incompetent that it is almost impossible to do any business in San Diego. North County is slightly better, but south of La Jolla is pretty much a trash-town. If you listen to various snippets of conversations in the SAN lounge (and compare it to the average conversations in JFK/LGA or ORD or LAX or SFO or BOS or DCA) then you will feel the difference. So I will not be surprised if AA decides to grow at SNA and not invest in SAN.
Of course SD is different. It certainly has its own vibe compared to the other cities mentioned, but it sounds like maybe you just really don’t fit in very well.
Why would anyone analyze “snippets” of conversations at various lounges in different cities and then rate the cities against each other based on the subjective quality of the conversation overheard in the lounge?

I didn't notice anything different in the layout, furniture, or food offerings. Whatever they did must have been pretty subtle. The only change, aside from the name, seems to be that entering with an AmEx card or Priority Pass no longer provides a F&B credit.

Furniture and carpet is new and the comp self service food area has been mildly upgraded (e.g. soup, salad).

Based on the menu on Swissport's website, all wine/spirits/beer appear to be chargeable--are there any comped beverages beyond coffee, tea, juice and soda?

The Airspace lounge has been rebranded (and remodeled) as Aspire lounge. It is operating on limited hours in the mornings, typically from around 6:00am to 1:00pm. . . . You can enter as a member of Admirals Club, but I feel, they are not as welcoming as they used to be pre-covid to the American Airlines frequent flyers. They prefer American Express Platinum/Centurion cardholders, as well as, Priority Pass members. When I checked-in as an Admirals Club member (few days ago), the associate politely mentioned that they also accept AX PLT and PP (for no reason I can think of). My guess is, AA is not paying them well.

Lounge changes appear to be in the works for SAN...

It appears that AS is taking over the Aspire lounge, so this should be good news for AA travelers. (A remodel and less traffic, assuming there's no more general public entry allowed.)

During the airport board meeting today, it was said that AS likely won’t remodel this space immediately, and that Swissport will likely continue to operate it in the short-term. It wasn’t directly stated, but I understood that to mean it would continue as Aspire for a time, and -I’m assuming- with the same access rules that are in place today.
Also, it was noted that there is some empty space next to the lounge space and that Alaska was looking at leasing that space and remodeling it all in one motion. No timetable was given for that, but interpolating the commentary leads me to believe it would be in the next 6-12, maybe 18, months.
Unfortunately, it seems that relief is not coming as soon as I, at least, had hoped.
And, it was mentioned that AA was talking about leasing the current DL club space in T2W after DL moves to T1. I guess AA is moving to T2W? I thought they were going to stay in T2E with AS.

First off, San Diego has been a money maker for AA ever since AA came to San Diego in the 50s, SAN was one of the Three airports to get Flagship service to JFK, starting with the DC-10. Your comment about knowing people is awesome, I know people from the days when AA was in Terminal 1, watched Term 2 being built, and watched AA move in with the new AC. The culture of AA has changed for the worse. But SAN has always been a money maker for AA, I'm sure AA wants to grow SNA. Well SAN get a flagship lounge, NO, well SNA, NO, the current lounge at SAN is nice, since AA does not connecting flights.
Regarding the people of SAN, you have those who are native, and those who think they are native's (they moved from the mid-west or the East Coast) I am a native of SAN, and we are laid back, but not lazy getting things done happens, but we don't live and breath work. I mean, when you have perfect weather 90% of the time, we rather be outside than in the office. I can pick on New Yorkers, as there are the typical pushing annoying types but won't go there.
