Yes, it is JAL that governs the lounge. However, it is also officially branded as an AA Admiral's Club (not a "partner" lounge) and AA should exert some pressure on JAL to return to more standard offerings. Much of what is going on (at least last time I was there) is just standard covid theater, which is not required by Hawaii or any other entity.

Ironically, inside the lounge, there is a sign saying "service is restricted to comply with Hawaii State Department of Health," but those restrictions have been long since lifted across the island. In fact, if you look at the restaurants and vendors in the airport itself, none of them have such restrictions on service, nor plexiglass cubicles, etc. The fast food court is still outdoor seating only (except for employees), but the sit-down restaurants are operating with indoor dining.

Japan government regulations have no effect in Hawaii. Japan Airlines controls the lounge. The Sakura lounge at Bangkok is serving food and drinks comparable to pre pandemic except there are set meals that customers select and are served by staff rather than a buffet.

I doubt that ESpen36 was trying to say that Japanese government regulations are enforced in Hawaii. Presumably, JAL can decide to institute a mask requirement in the lounge at HNL if they wish to do so, and they have done so.
I'm here now and it's pretty much the same as it was a few months ago, before the local mask mandate was lifted. Masks are required. The hospital-esque plexiglass dividers are still everywhere, and the food and beverage service is still limited compared to pre-pandemic. Still, it's nice to sit and look out at the pretty garden in the late afternoon sun

Now HNL just needs to take down the vacated structure that they put up for Safe Travels on the walkway closest to gate E-2.

Would I have access to this lounge if I am flying from Japan on JAL in Business HND-HNL, then connecting to an Alaska Airlines First Class flight?
Would that still be valid if I stopover in HNL / Oahu for a couple days? [Could I access it the morning of my flight?]
My Alaska flight doesn't qualify per this:

You would qualify per OW lounge access rules only if you were CONNECTING from the Asia flight onward to the U.S. mainland. For international, "connecting" is defined as up to 24 hours between flights (as long as your onward flight is the next available flight to your destination). If you decide to stay in Oahu for a "couple of days," it will no longer count as a "connection" under OW lounge access rules. So, you would not have lounge access before your Alaska flight. However, you could buy a Day Pass if you wish.

Hi everyone,
Just visited today, and now they have self-serve non-alcoholic drinks with soda machine, coffee machine, and green tea/orange juice options. No longer do you have to ask the servers.
They also added a miso soup, Chinese noodle dish, and Chicken curry.

Same food options they've had since they re-opened, it sounds like. Wonder if they'll ever bring back the self-serve liquor...sure hope so! Speaking of, is there liquor at all yet, or just server poured limited selection of beer and wine still?

Visited last Friday on way home. JAL staff routinely cleaning and disinfecting surfaces. Self serve soda machine mostly “out of order”. Only Ginger ale and Sprite available. A few food choices available on demand. No alcohol. Lavatories filthy and disgusting. AA flights now routinely leaving from C gates which is long haul from Club. At check in agents were giving out written directions to Club and asked us to give it to AA Club agents when we checked in at Club. Said AA Club agents were saying AA check in agents were not telling pax where the Club was located. Appeared some kind of friendly feud going on. We stayed about 15 minutes and decided waiting in the terminal/ gate area was better.

Thanks for sharing your experience. This particular AAdmiral's club situation is completely unacceptable at this point.
Regards
P.S. To others who may reply, yes, I'm aware this club is controlled by JAL, but AA chooses to brand it as an "Admiral's Club" and they should be pushing JAL a LOT harder to move this particular club back to previous standards.

Sadly, I have found the sterile, hospital-esque nature of the lounge to be extremely unattractive on my last few visits. Hopefully they have removed the innumerable plexiglass partitions by now. Are masks still required in the lounge despite not being required in the airport, as was the case a few months ago?
For better or worse, I have started to take HA for some mainland flights, and I have found it much more enjoyable than AA. [Edit: This is comparing paid F on HA with paid F on AA.]

For an upcoming trip, I got a ridiculously cheap AA fare on a return ($189) and a really cheap outbound ticket on HA, using miles (17.5K). Then I spent $105 for an exit row seat. All in all, a pretty cheap trip.

Only two drink types out of service on the soda machine, maybe that is an improvement?
