Understood. Many thanks for the thorough explanation.

As stated in the Wikipost at the top of the page, there are no AA - AS cross benefits any longer other than earnings on International flights. As to codeshares, you’ll generally get baggage allowance stated on your ticket, or the operating airline’s allowance iirc.

But no AA elite benefits flying AS, even as an AA marketed / codeshare flight, any longer. Essentially, this was a loss incurred when Alaska took Virgin America. Much like flying an AA marketed flight on another non-oneworld partner airline, such as Air Fiji or Air Tahiti Nui. No AA perks at all.

Earning AA miles on Alaska flights

Hi all,

I know this used to be possible but is it still? My flight is book as an AS flight number. It's not a code share. Can I still earn AA miles?

Thank you!

I'm sure there is an answer to this question already so apologies for not being able to find it reasonably quickly.

If you book an AA operated flight with Alaska miles and you have EXP status can you qualify for a domestic upgrade?

It would seem similar for AA flights booked with AS miles as AA flights booked with BA Avios, and there's a current thread about that:

Can AA elites upgrade awards secured with Avios?

Alaska Airlines baggage fees and AA EXPs

Do AA EXPs flying on AS in coach (no AA codeshare) get any waiver for checking in one bag?

No, why would they? In the old days, when AS was a partner, you got 2 bags.
AA elites no longer receive priority seats, boarding, etc on AS

No.

It gets worse. As AA Plat Pro, I flew from SLC to SFO on an AA codeshare operated by AS. When I went to the AA checkin desk to check my luggage, they told me to go to the AS desk to check the bags. AS charged me for the bags even though my AA ticket said USD 0 for checked bags. The AS agent told me to get a refund from AA. I called AA for the refund. They asked me to submit an online request. I submitted an online request on AA.com and they haven't responded in a week. They play a very good game of passing the buck, and I see this as a failure of AA. They promised the benefit. They have a check-in desk. The least they could have done is checked my bags when I went to their desk and avoided this hassle. If not, they should clear it up wtih AS so that AS would honor the baggage allowance for those on AA-marketed tickets.

No, AA can’t check in your bags when your first segment is operated by AS. You always check in with the operating carrier (or primary marketing carrier in the case of Eagle/Connection/Express flights) of your first segment.

AS not following the baggage allowance and fees listed on your sticker receipt is against the law. You should get a refund. It’s AS who incorrectly charged you the fees, so I think the refund should be from them.

(AA IT routinely places the incorrect bag fees on tickets in cases like this — USD0.00 is incorrect — but that’s for AA and AS to work out, not you. What’s printed on the eticket receipt is legally binding for all carriers on the ticket.)

I'm confused by this whole thing.

AA will sell me a ticket on AS, but I won't earn any AAdvantage miles?

If they're willing to sell me a ticket, then isn't it codeshare eligible and therefore AA miles can be earned?

Agent said mile estimate was 0 on his screen.

AA will sell you a ticket on any airline they have an interline agreement with, including United. The ticket won't earn miles unless it's marketed by a mileage-earning partner. AS is no longer a mileage-earning partner. If the ticket is showing zero miles, it's probably not being sold as a codeshare. Not all AS flights carry an AA code, in part due to DOT-imposed restrictions as part of the approval of the AS/VX merger. But certainly ask if the flight is available with an AA code.

AA marketed tickets operated by AS will earn AA miles like any other AA flight.

It is also possible that the agent's mileage estimator is incorrect. The relevant questions are 1) "What is the marketing carrier?" and 2) "What is the fare class?".
