AA Elites Benefits Flying AS / Alaska Airlines Discontinued 1 Jan 2018 Including domestic earning AA miles and status flying AS
For travel starting January 1, 2018
Earn and redeem AAdvantage® miles for travel on Alaska Airlines within the U.S. and between the U.S. and:
Earn miles on Alaska Airlines only when flying on American Airlines* codeshare flights.
Flying as an AA marketed flight (“AA codeshare”) continue to earn as if you were flying AA:
Flying domestic Alaska flights marketed as Alaska flight numbers do NOT earn any AAdvantage credit as of 1/1/2018 other than if marketed by American Airlines. AA codeshares are operated by Alaska and Horizon, not Virgin America.
Previously offered. AA AAdvantage status-based perquisites are no longer applicable.
Benefits offered to AAdvantage elite members flying on Alaska Airlines are discontinued at this time.

As has been discussed briefly here and in the existing Some notes on Flying AS / Alaska as an AA Elite thread <link>, there has been a recent enhancement of benefits for Elite AAdvantage members whilst flying on Alaska Airlines as of October 26, 2011. This thread will replace the older thread given its four year existence, many off topic and nearly off topic posts, and considerable obsolete information.

New Elite benefits?
A few days ago, a checkin agent at AS told me that as of today they will extend some more benefits to AA Elite, like free beg checkin and more. Did anyone hear more details?

Hi,
I will be soon flying a transcon, SEA-MIA with AS metal, AA code. I was wondering if in this situation has anyone succeed in upgrading to F either by buy-up or by inserting a Delta FF# (with status- since they have reciprocal agreement on this)?
If either one of the above is possible, any tips on how to do this?
What about access to the AS lounges? [If none, I might hop over to the BA lounge if time permits]

If this is a harbinger of reciprocal (i.e. bidirectional) baggage fee waivers, priority boarding and exit row seating, bravo to both companies for finally working this out. I know quite a few AS elites in the Seattle area that fly DL when needed simply for the reciprocal bennies--in some cases, AA may have been a better option but were not considered due to a lack of reciprocal benefits.

I just checked my upcoming LAX-YVR flight and indeed alaskaair.com recognized me as an AA elite upon entering my reservation info. Was able to pick a way better seat reserved for MVP members. ^
Now if they can just have waived luggage fees and reciprocal BR access for AC members I'll be ever so happy.

I just checked a recent alaskaair.com booking and can confirm that, where before it would have my frequent flyer information listed as "American 111AAA1" it now says "American 111AAA1 - AA Elite". I am flying on the same reservation as Mrs. Microwave, however, so I was already in an exit row and cannot tell whether this would get me exit row independently.

So far it is only preferred seating and 2 free bags, which are very good benefits. I do not expect any upgrades. It is only possible for AAdvantage members to upgrade BA and IB flights using miles only if it's a full fare ticket and it's booked on AA.com

It's funny that the free checked baggage on AS will impact me more than getting it on AA. The only time I ever check bags is when skiing/snowboarding which is almost always using the AS SEA-DEN flight.

It's understandable why Golds won't get the elite security line benefit. AS does not even give that to its Gold-equivilent MVP members.
Also, informally, AA elites have been able to use AS elite security lines by showing their elite card. So far Golds, it's possible there might be loss in benefits in this area.
Now what are the policies for standby?
This benefit will definitely be helpful for SJC-MMH.
