UNDER CONSTRUCTION

NOTE: The 15 A330-200 (with Rolls Royce Trent 700 engines) are being retained and updated. (The nine Pratt & Whitney equipped A330-300s have been scheduled for retirement (return to lessor at lease end) by late 2018 due to poor "fit" in the AA fleet (link).) The A330-200s will continue, however, and the launch of the retrofitted A330-200 will see
  • 20 Zodiac "Envoy" type Business seats in a 1-2-1 layout (1 blocked for pilot rest)
  • 21 Premium Economy (B/E Aerospace) seats in a 2-3-2 layout
  • 50 Main Cabin Extra seats (same seats as Y, just greater seat pitch) 2-4-2 (2 blocked for customers requiring customer assistance)
  • Main Cabin / Economy seats also 2-4-2
  • Ku band satellite based Panasonic WiFi
  • Individual personal entertainment screens for every seat
  • Seat power
  • Noise reduction headsets - Bose in Business, others for Premium Economy

Premium Economy and extended Main Cabin Extra has been installed on the A330-200 fleet. Until 15 Jan 2018, PE seats were available to Elites as MCE on those aircraft with PE; PE are available for sale on that date.

And with the SJU draw down I doubt there will be a desire to send 2-5 330's a day to SJU between Feb-April.

It seems to have been taking them 7-14 calendar days to refit the 772's at KPAE.

If that's the case, AA still could have the A332 fleet refit by the EOY, per their previously released schedule. There's only 15 of them, and we have about 10 weeks left in the year.

Right now, it seems they are doing 2-3 772's at a time. Once October flying draws down, it's possible we'll see that kind of volume head to KPAE from the A332 fleet.

Ship 283

It looks like Ship 283 got ferried from CLT-SAL on October 29. Is this for other maintenance or the PE upgrade? Or both?

All the 772's have been refitted at PAE so far. As was N279AY.

So I doubt there's a W refit happening in SAL.

Most likely only heavy maintenance. AA regularly sends planes there for D checks- usually Airbus A319/20/21 and A330s.

It's been close to a week since Winter European schedule kicked in. Not one has been sent to Paine Field. Some are doing domestic runs.

Flying PHL-FCO which is suppose to be one of the routes with PE after Jan. 15th but of course the seat map doesn't show that yet....my wife and I got 9AB with the bulkhead being row 8....if we get swapped to the new configuration with PE, could we get bumped out of 9AB which would become bulkhead (MCE)? 10AB are available so I'm wondering if we should play it safe and move back to those seats to avoid re-assignment. I know there is also a row or two (row 8 or 9?) with a missing window and would really want to avoid that row if possible...of course the missing window row may be different from what's showing on seatguru based on the new reconfiguration.

N285AY has flown to Everett for the PEY refit. It's now the 2nd A332 to be done- I've edited the Wiki.

For what it’s worth, we had 7G7H bulk head for a 2/18 PHL-CDG flight and at least a month ago the seat map changed to the new configuration with 9G9H as the new bulk head on that side. The computer auto assigned us to the new row 9...

Interesting....wonder where they auto assigned the passengers who may have already been in 9G9H....did you happen to notice which rows near you had the missing window? I wonder when seat guru will start showing the new configuration?

I can’t help with the window. Good question about those already in 9...or any of the other many new MCE seats along the starboard side...

eta: I think with the lead time AA has had the new seat map in place, my last remark might be moot for the most part.

For some reason, premium economy on PHL-FCO is only available through 3/23/18 after which it indefinitely switches back to the non-refurbished -300.
