UNDER CONSTRUCTION

NOTE: The 15 A330-200 (with Rolls Royce Trent 700 engines) are being retained and updated. (The nine Pratt & Whitney equipped A330-300s have been scheduled for retirement (return to lessor at lease end) by late 2018 due to poor "fit" in the AA fleet (link).) The A330-200s will continue, however, and the launch of the retrofitted A330-200 will see
  • 20 Zodiac "Envoy" type Business seats in a 1-2-1 layout (1 blocked for pilot rest)
  • 21 Premium Economy (B/E Aerospace) seats in a 2-3-2 layout
  • 50 Main Cabin Extra seats (same seats as Y, just greater seat pitch) 2-4-2 (2 blocked for customers requiring customer assistance)
  • Main Cabin / Economy seats also 2-4-2
  • Ku band satellite based Panasonic WiFi
  • Individual personal entertainment screens for every seat
  • Seat power
  • Noise reduction headsets - Bose in Business, others for Premium Economy

Premium Economy and extended Main Cabin Extra has been installed on the A330-200 fleet. Until 15 Jan 2018, PE seats were available to Elites as MCE on those aircraft with PE; PE are available for sale on that date.

Just from my own experience, I've never seen these seats available or occupied by passengers in maybe 5 TA flights over the years. The official line is always that they are used for crew rest, and I've seen a sort of curtain around them in flight a number of times.

Question 21 A,B or 22 G,H

I apologize if this has been asked but I have done an extensive search here and elsewhere online trying to find an answer, with no success.

We are flying PHL to BCN on the A330-200 and at the moment the only free seats on the sides are row 21 A,B and row 22 G,H. I know noise is always an issue with seats in front of the lavatory and I can deal with that with headphones but do these seats recline and which set would be best? I am thinking 21 because there is more space between that row and the middle set of lavatories.

Thank you in advance for your help!

Wendy

New A330-200 configuration on aa.com is whack.

Has anyone seen this?

https://www.aa.com/seats/view?flight...N&aircraft=332

MCE on only the right side in the front cabin, and a few rows of MCE in the rear cabin. Even weirder than the 777 PEY configuration. I understand that the people who did this probably thought it through, but at least make it symmetrical for heaven's sake! And also, what makes them think that row 28, being the 8 rows from the last row in the plane, qualifies as a preferred seat!

I'd gladly take an odd configuration in exchange for them going from the current 12 MCE to what now appears to be 48 MCE.

Or, it is the curvature of the airplane which tapers in the back. All carriers have the same layout in the back. It is not MCE.

The colors on that linked seat map aren't correct at all. That's some type of coding error.

When is this flight? I didn't know that AA had released plans for PY for the A330's yet?

With 2-3-2, the A330 PY will definitely be the most comfortable across the AA longhaul fleet.

I'd argue that the 789 (and the 788 when it gets a W cabin) is the most comfortable--same 2-3-2 configuration but in a wider fuselage than the 332.

On a separate note, AA's decision to not install a true MCE section as part of the retrofit is very frustrating--so much for fleet consistency and elite perks, particularly on the TATLs that these planes will be flying.

Oops. I forgot the A330/340 width is less than the 787. I had the A350 numbers in my head. ^

I read somewhere, I think TPG, that actual sales of PE are in effect for 1/15/18 flights. If available before then, they will be assigned as the 789 were. I have one mid Feb where I had an EF notification yesterday and noted that the computer had correctly reassigned us from 7G&H to the new bulkhead 9G&H.

Is it a coding error though? After all, wasn't there a row of seats behind Row 21 on that side before? If so, maybe that was removed to create an MCE section?

That's what I think. AA wouldn't make this catastrophic of an error in coding a seat map...

Actually I went back to the post I saw about it and now they are putting in 50 MCE seats so maybe they actually are doing it this way. Very odd configuration...
