AAdvantage eShoppping by Cartera Commerce
Using, earning miles, problems, etc. (Consolidated thread)

American Airlines is not the contact for Cartera / AAdvantage eShopping .

AAdvantage eShopping FAQs and an e-contact form can be found via the "Contact Us" link at the bottom left corner of the home page.

If you have trouble getting purchases to track, there's also a browser extension to help.

Notes about Giftcards.com:
  • A separate thread exists for discussing Giftcards.com and likely has more data points than this generic thread.
  • Purchases from giftcards.com earn miles on the first $2,000 spent in the named calendar month, meaning for example between March 1st and March 31st.
  • Giftcards.com has had various limits over the years, and it was always by calendar month.
  • Some data points show the $2,000 monthly limit is not always enforced.
  • In 2022, larger orders track more slowly, and you may need to wait a full month to see miles.
(Copied from the LP thread wiki): Once you click through the AAdvantage eShopping portal to a vendor offer and make a purchase, you will eventually get the associated miles posted to your AAdvantage account as both redeemable miles and Loyalty Points. If the merchant advertises an increase in the miles per dollar spent, you'll earn the higher amount in both redeemable miles and an equal number of Loyalty Points. The same applies if a merchant advertises a higher fixed amount per purchase, rather than a per dollar amount. Examples of this would appear on the portal as, "Extra miles. Was 1 mile/$. Now earn 3 miles/$" or "Extra miles. Was up to 3700 miles. Now up to 6200 miles." However, if the website advertises a "Limited-time bonus offer" for "bonus miles" after meeting a spending threshold, that bonus will only post as redeemable miles and not Loyalty Points. If a bonus is offered for some site-wide activity such as 1000 miles for installing an extension, or 500 miles for enrolling in the portal, or 2000 miles for meeting a spending threshold across multiple merchants, the bonus will only post as redeemable miles and not Loyalty Points.

I'm back to having problems with giftcards.com rejecting my orders for nonsense reasons, like "Some of your information is invalid." I created a second account with gc.com and that one can seem to place orders. I am in fact ahead of the curve on my $2K/month, and it's always possible that is the reason, but I didn't have that problem in May. I'm not trying to buy a total of more than $2K/month, but I'm trying to spread them out more. The first month I bought the whole $2K between 2/28 and 3/2. In May I bought them on the 10/11/22/23/23/25/26/27th. So far in June on the 6th/7th/10th. I think there's general agreement that gc.com doesn't block them based on the $2K/month; in fact I don't think gc.com even actually sees that, it's just on the back end with the points.

Annoying. I'm going to wait a week or so and hope it clears itself up. I don't particularly want to create a bunch of accounts with a bunch of different email addresses.

Any update on this? I want to buy some for June before the promo expires EOD but would prefer if I can load them into GPay (although I might be misreading it and it's only the non-VVs that can do this either way).

Disney+ for 500 and $1 should still be available.
Paramount+ for 450 for a few dollars.
There should be an offer for the AA shopping button for 1000 bonus RDMs, expiring today.

I had done several smaller transactions to test n(with different merchants) with no problems. The nature of the purchase was such that doing a small transaction with this specific merchant wasn't feasible.
Happy update: Cartera escalated to a manager that was able to verify that there didn't appear to be a reason it didn't track. They resubmitted to merchant, who approved and posted quickly. Still don't understand exactly what happened, but I'll take it. I guess the moral is be politely persistent if you are sure you followed all the steps correctly.

Between this and all the virtual Visa cards, I am already back to Platinum despite only taking 4 flights so far this year. It is a a strange new program.

Card has been activated/registered but when clicking on "save to wallet" I'm getting "There was a problem retrieving your card information.". I've tried using 3 different browsers and 2 different phones and getting the same error each time. Could I have made some kind of mistake while registering the card maybe? I'm stumped.
With google pay and apple pay not seemingly accepting virtual GCs to load into the app, I have found they do work on Walmart Pay.
So you could go in-store, buy groceries etc and then use the app (with the GC loaded as payment method) to pay.
I was hoping you could also use Walmart Pay at Murphy and Walmart gas stations however it seems this doesn't work, going by Twitter replies from Walmart to my queries.
However, and this is a bit convoluted, you can buy Walmart (brand) gift cards with the GCC virtual GCs and then use that plastic card at the pump at Murphy and Walmart gas stations. They can't accept Walmart (brand) egift cards though at this time, has to be plastic. But there is no fee for the Walmart brand GCs, it's 1:1.

Has anyone ever been logged out of the eShopping site while shopping with a merchant? This happened to me today. After I finished my purchase, I closed the merchant's website link and was back on the landing page. When I went to click on the eShopping homepage link, it was doing the long download indication. Then, when I went to click on the "my account" link, I had to sign-in again. So, we'll see if the purchase tracks. The "good news" is that it at least shows up on the recent store visits listing.

It doesn't matter. Once you click through there's no more interaction between your browser and the portal.

Also there are different levels of "logged in". It will expire the cookie that allows you to see or change your account info, but click throughs still work.

I made a purchase through the shopping mall last Saturday (at Brooks Brothers) and the miles posted this morning. That's the fastest I've ever seen miles via eShopping post.

Reading through the last couple of pages, it appears that getting LPs from Byte is troublesome. Is it still worth pursuing, or is it a waste of time?

My purchase never tracked by but I don't know if others had issues.

Be prepared to deal with slimy salespeople. I ended up just blocking the phone number of the sales person who refused to stop texting me, and reporting all their email as spam (do future emails from them continue to go to down)

Purchased Byte Impression kit about 2 weeks ago for 14.95. No intention of actually using the service. I saw that in my AAdvantage Account I got extra 2700 miles few days after. However when I got to EShopping portal I see that Points from byte are pending and purchase was 0 dollars! Not sure what to think of it. I got miles and hoping it won’t get clawed back. I even mailed that impression kit as per Byte instructions.

I don't they get clawed back. Since it's a flat amount (not a number of miles per dollar) they probably just don't report the amount spent. Sunbasket was the same for me.

Like I said, mine just never tracked. I opened a ticket but they won't look at it until the 15 day mark which is this weekend.

Question Problems with AAdvantage eshopping miles

I've recently had issues with the eshopping program where the merchant (Thrive Market) and AAdvantage eshopping have denied mileage on my recent purchases. I also shopped at Home Depot for the 8 miles promo for furniture purchase, and I received 0.5 mile per dollar. Does anyone know of a way to get results? Does it help to go to consumer affairs or BBB? Thank you.
