AAdvantage eShoppping by Cartera Commerce
Using, earning miles, problems, etc. (Consolidated thread)

American Airlines is not the contact for Cartera / AAdvantage eShopping .

AAdvantage eShopping FAQs and an e-contact form can be found via the "Contact Us" link at the bottom left corner of the home page.

If you have trouble getting purchases to track, there's also a browser extension to help.

Notes about Giftcards.com:
  • A separate thread exists for discussing Giftcards.com and likely has more data points than this generic thread.
  • Purchases from giftcards.com earn miles on the first $2,000 spent in the named calendar month, meaning for example between March 1st and March 31st. [Note: as of Aug 2023, the $2k limit is per order, not per purchase]
  • Giftcards.com has had various limits over the years, and it was always by calendar month.
  • Some data points show the $2,000 monthly limit is not always enforced. [Note: as of Aug 2023, the $2k limit is per order, not per purchase]
  • In 2022, larger orders track more slowly, and you may need to wait a full month to see miles. Strong advice from the thread is to make multiple small purchases (say under $300) rather than large ones to avoid the dreaded "manual review"
(Copied from the LP thread wiki): Once you click through the AAdvantage eShopping portal to a vendor offer and make a purchase, you will eventually get the associated miles posted to your AAdvantage account as both redeemable miles and Loyalty Points. If the merchant advertises an increase in the miles per dollar spent, you'll earn the higher amount in both redeemable miles and an equal number of Loyalty Points. The same applies if a merchant advertises a higher fixed amount per purchase, rather than a per dollar amount. Examples of this would appear on the portal as, "Extra miles. Was 1 mile/$. Now earn 3 miles/$" or "Extra miles. Was up to 3700 miles. Now up to 6200 miles." However, if the website advertises a "Limited-time bonus offer" for "bonus miles" after meeting a spending threshold, that bonus will only post as redeemable miles and not Loyalty Points. If a bonus is offered for some site-wide activity such as 1000 miles for installing an extension, or 500 miles for enrolling in the portal, or 2000 miles for meeting a spending threshold across multiple merchants, the bonus will only post as redeemable miles and not Loyalty Points.

Some anti-virus software silently blocks tracking, and you may want to consider disabling it for your purchase.

Now that the giftcards.com has ended the 3x promo, which stores have extra miles to buy giftcards?

Basically none. Raise.com withdrew from the portal a month ago. All the major retailers exclude giftcards from earning miles, at least in the TOC. The only exception I believe is Walgreens, but you have to buy online for store pick-up only, I think.

Welp I’m about 8000 LP shy of Gold, deadline February. Bad time for gc[.]com to shrivel up. I’m not a big spender either. I’m thinking meal kits will be the way forward.

You can get that with one hotel stay almost anywhere.

Just filed my missing miles request for an August 29 purchase via GiftCards.com. Glad I kept screenshots.

Have a September 2 purchase I'll be looking for as well.

I made the same mistake and bought my full $2K in one transaction on Aug 30. It hasn’t posted yet, so I’ll probably fill out the online inquiry form next week.

In light of the recent unfortunate developments, I am afraid I have to do that too, I can't let it go, as I thought I might. I want to be EXP by next week, lol...

Updating my own reply to another FTer and as a future ref/data point. Finally received the points from Booking.com via aadvantageshopping (well beyond the 60 days). Unfortunately you just have to chase after them. Customer reps were very helpful in pursuing the points from booking.

FWIW, I used TopCashBack.com to book an apartment on Booking and my cash back was available between 3 and 4 weeks following our stay. Not sure which network TopCashBack uses.

Update of my own. Mine were from 9/2 and today is 15 days. I logged in to the portal to fill out the form and the points had already showed up (pending), sometime between 1am and 10am this morning (it wouldn't let me do the form at 1am because it said it wasn't 15 days yet). They haven't shown up on aa.com yet, but I expect that pretty quickly.

You can still fill out the form even with that message. It's been 50/50 for me getting a reply that either says "we'll investigate once it hits 15 days" or they actually start investigating early. Usually on gc.com purchases I was able to get added before the 15 day mark.

Back to School Bonus

Any idea when the bonus points from the back-to-school promotion will be credited? Waiting them to hit the account to make a redemption booking.

Your bonus will post to your account within 10 weeks of the bonus end date. Bonus ended on 08/14/22.

from the T&Cs. I don't think anyone has any better info.

I find that those big transactions do show up (I've had a few, for various reasons) -- but they take at least 3 weeks.
