American Airlines is not the contact for Cartera / AAdvantage eShopping .

AAdvantage eShopping FAQs and an e-contact form can be found via the "Contact Us" link at the bottom left corner of the home page.

If you have trouble getting purchases to track, there's also a browser extension to help.

Notes about Giftcards.com:
  • A separate thread exists for discussing Giftcards.com and likely has more data points than this generic thread.
  • Purchases from giftcards.com earn miles on the first $2,000 spent in the named calendar month, meaning for example between March 1st and March 31st.
  • Giftcards.com has had various limits over the years, and it was always by calendar month.
  • Some data points show the $2,000 monthly limit is not always enforced.
  • In 2022, larger orders track more slowly, and you may need to wait a full month to see miles.
(Copied from the LP thread wiki): Once you click through the AAdvantage eShopping portal to a vendor offer and make a purchase, you will eventually get the associated miles posted to your AAdvantage account as both redeemable miles and Loyalty Points. If the merchant advertises an increase in the miles per dollar spent, you'll earn the higher amount in both redeemable miles and an equal number of Loyalty Points. The same applies if a merchant advertises a higher fixed amount per purchase, rather than a per dollar amount. Examples of this would appear on the portal as, "Extra miles. Was 1 mile/$. Now earn 3 miles/$" or "Extra miles. Was up to 3700 miles. Now up to 6200 miles." However, if the website advertises a "Limited-time bonus offer" for "bonus miles" after meeting a spending threshold, that bonus will only post as redeemable miles and not Loyalty Points. If a bonus is offered for some site-wide activity such as 1000 miles for installing an extension, or 500 miles for enrolling in the portal, or 2000 miles for meeting a spending threshold across multiple merchants, the bonus will only post as redeemable miles and not Loyalty Points.

How’re you liquidating easily? Regular spend or…?! 😉

I believe it was 1x for several years, and any increase to 3x has historically been short-lived (a few days). The recent 6-month (ish) period of 3x was unusually long.

Very few people will buy for the discount, I believe the stronger motive is the LPs. Perhaps they will know think that people will feel more pressure to buy for the LPs, even with 1 LP, as we are in the second half of the qualification year, but the reverse could be also true, as many people are close to qualifying for what they wanted anyway, or already qualified. I am pretty sure there will be some at least temporary hikes up to 3x, at least around Nov/Dec.

Besides the LPs, the point of 3x is that you buy AA redeemable miles cheap, for .8 cents a mile, even with no discounts at all.

There is also a middle scenario where they make it 2x, as in the United portal (now also back down to 1x).

It looks like all the published 5% codes died since last night.

Yea, the code appears on the portal but it doesn't work. I think we need to wait for a while until they bring a promo back, it is now pretty useless...

So in one fell swoop, it went from 3x points to 1x, and the 5% promotion which was advertised to go to 11-SEP is also now gone. Bummer!

Fortunately I had somewhat ramped up my purchases the past few days, but this 3X => 1X is sad indeed. Gees, I may have to actually FLY to get to EXP again.

On the one hand, it makes sense for me to back down my GC purchases now since they don't make sense stand-alone. On the other hand, I'd hate to find myself a month from the end of the qualification year and 10K LP's short and no travel planned.

It definitely makes me want to pay cash for a ticket or two rather than using award miles in the coming months.

Great thought. I have property taxes on land as well as my annual timeshare fee coming up soon. That's a perfect use.

Unless they're free to use to pay or you literally have no other use for them, I cannot see value in paying several percent in fees for this.

IMO, there are far better places to use these like utility bills (electric, gas, cable, water, phone) and anything with PayPal than pay a fee on top of the 5 dollar odd charge these GCs incur.

I bought them under cost (with fees and taxes, 2.7% under cost). Anything less than 2.7% is break-even (or better) for me.

I am facing a similar issue as well. Completed several stays and the oldest one been well more than 60 days and still not posted. Anyone else has recent experiences? thanks.

Crap, I knew I shouldn't have procrastinated on the September cards. I had Sep 11 on my calendar as the deadline.

On May 11th, I booked a September stay at an IHG hotel through the shopping portal with no deposit (not pre-padi).

I just completed the stay,

Anyone know how long it takes for points to post with this type of transaction?

In my tax jurisdiction, there is a 2.5% fee for credit cards but only a 1% fee for debit cards, which is how these process. It's a no brainer.

Using the GCs for taxes is still cheaper than Amazon for those of us that have a Prime CC (3 or 5% off). I just wish that the feds didn’t limit to 2 per quarter because they charge less for debit cards (unlike CA state).
