AA Increases AAnytime Award Mileage Costs / Adds Tiers [8 Apr 2014]

Just searched NYC-PVG in June, Anytime award Econ 85K, Biz 175K, First 210K.

I couldn't find any announcement.

INTERESTING!

Before May it is 70K as usual, but in June some dates are 85K while others are 65K (those dates with saver availability).

Although I never use AAnytime for international travel, this change is definitely something unacceptable... and AA's award chart hasn't changed.

This is across the board in Asia and Europe, with Anytime Business fares more than 3x Saver on certain dates (180,000 miles some dates LAX-LHR). Really good sign of things to come. ^

Edited to add: It also looks like Anytime pricing is gone altogether in the US--at least as of now, once the schedule hits June 1 there's no Anytime space at all showing.

There is more at work here I think then we see.

It appears they are moving to "variable" or demand-based system. I was checking (as an example) DFW-HKG in early June. In. First (and Business) I am seeing variable awards (in First) for 180k or 210k - depending on the day.

Did the same for DFW-LHR. Multiple rates for the cabin depending on day of week, etc.

Changes are coming....

Wow. Not even a warning. Huge . Up to an 80% increase in AAnytime awards. Simply speechless.

Data point:
JFK-BCN J AAnytime one-way used to be 100k
Now is either 100k/110k/135/180k depending on the day

It is meant to be announced tomorrow. AA did everything in their power to keep it hush hush until they sprang it on us.

AAnytime awards will now be dynamic, meaning we will have to pay a premium on high demand dates/periods, and less on off peak periods.

What is also unannounced as of yet is that International Gateway City Stopovers are also gone.

The new AAdvantage is turning into Dividend Miles in disguise.

Just tried a very simple SJO-MIA stopover-ATL, it shows error

"We are unable to complete your reservation as requested. To continue, please select an alternate flight (s) or call AAdvantage Reservations."

Looking at BOS-ORD and BOS-LAX in July, there are no AAnytime awards displayed at all -- just Economy MileSAAver and Business/First MileSAAver. And no availability for either on several dates.

They have posted the new AA Award Chart online but they do not reveal the Anytime Award Level 3 Values.

I just tried MIA-oLAX-BNE and the stopover at LAX is (still) allowed. Tried it for dates in June/July and Nov/Dec

I seem to be able to price out an off-peak HNL-LAX stop LAX-LHR award just fine for 20,000 miles.

Ouch. Loss of the free stopover hurts me more than the AAnytime rates changing.
