Redeeming AA miles for BA flight to MLE.
 

British Airways is soon starting LGW-MLE (Maldives) and on numerous occasions I've called AA's AAdvantage desk to look up any award availability for the flight. AA tells me that because they don't codeshare with BA on the specific city pairs, they cannot book awards on that flight. If true, I find this completely bogus.

They are offering me DXB, but I want MLE.


My other question is, assuming I can finally locate availability on the MLE legs, is YYZ-LHR/LGW-MLE and back doable using AA miles? I know there is a rule saying you have to fly AA transatlantic, but I read somewhere that the rule only applies on flights to/from USA, but not Canada, Mexico or the Caribbean. Can anyone please verify this?

Join BA's Executive Club and do an online award search on their website to find availability on BA award flights. If you see it, jot it down on a memo pad and call AA again saying those are the flights you want.

Works all the time.


Oh, and BA's award engine can search all oneworld flights, so one can use it to search availability on other carriers such as JL, CX, and QF too ^

And to add to Kebosabi's suggestion, there is tons of availability on that flight alas in whY. Seems like a lot of the J seats have been snagged since end of May early June. Check 330 days out to see if you can snag em.

Also, when you Call AA make sure you tell them from LGW, cause you'll get somebody ALWAYS checking from LHR. AND, they dont fly daily 3 times a week only.
