As is made clear in this thread already, AA's policy is not to check bags across connections exceeding 12 hours. Thus, AA should not do so here. If a given AA violates his employer's policy, you may get lucky. But, you will not know until you check your bags and must plan on retrieving them at HKG.

If American Airlines is operating the first flight after you check in, it is, as has been pointed out, AA policy to not through check hold baggage on connections exceeding 12 hours.
If you are checking in with another (than AA) operating airline, they will most likely apply their hold baggage policy, which may allow for through checking baggage on connections exceeding 12 hours.
In my opinion, there are times (RON / overnight when I might want my bag) or airports (LHR, MIA) where I want to reduce risk of pilfering, theft or loss, where I prefer short-checking my hold baggage if it’s allowed (it is on most RON situations).

Baggage Policy on AA/EY
Hi Expert,
I am sorry if this is not the correct sub-forum for this question. I have a PHL-LHR-AUH-HYD ticket where PHL-LHR is on AA and LHR-AUH-HYD is on Etihad. I understand AA baggage policy apply as i am buying my ticket through AA.COM but when i asked AA about bagagge policy i got different answers. It is a single ticket all the way to the final destination. First AA Rep said i have to take my checked-in bags in LHR, go through customs and re-check-in with Etihad. Second AA rep said I have to take my checked-in bags in LHR and give it back to Etihad airlines. Third AA rep said i don't have to take my bags in LHR and can go stright to Etihad gate.
I only have 2 hrs connection in LHR and I have to be on the air side as i need VISA to go through immigration.
Can someone please advice what is the policy on AA-EY transfer in LHR with single ticket?

AA phone reps have become completely useless when it comes to questions about anything other than the simplest of bookings. The 3rd rep was correct. On a single ticket your bag will be tagged all the way to HYD. You will drop it off at check-in at PHL and not claim it again until you arrive in HYD. You will not have to claim it at LHR or check it in again with EY, etc. etc. You may have to stop by the EY transit desk to get your BP for the EY flight, but that's it.
To add, your baggage allowance is what is on your AA booked ticket. For the whole way.

AA will check your bags through to the final destination. If you are on one ticket, there is necessarily an interline baggage agreement. When you get to your EY gate, show your tags to the agent and he should be able to confirm that your bags have made it to EY.
As to baggage allowance, it is not quite so simple.
Your base allowance on AA will apply to your all segments. That base allowance is one bag in Y. If you have bag waivers by virtue of status on OW/AA, you will not have the additional waiver for LHR-HYD. But, that will not affect your ability to check bags through to HYD and EKY is unlikely to do the add/collect at the gate.
This should all be explained on your AA e-ticket receipt which should show the baggage fees for first and second bag for all segments.

the oversize baggage page states that you need to call to see if there is restrictions on the plane, we are looking at bring a chest from our house in Canada back to our home in the UK, (its pretty light) but i was wondering, is the ERJ175 restricted on the oversize baggage or will i have to call with the dimensions?

As a OW Sapphire you should receive a boarding pass that allows you to board with other Elites in group 3, and therefore can have a carry on bag in the cabin on the AA flight.

Incorrect baggage allowance
Myself and my wife were travelling from LGA to BOS on AA and then connecting on QR to DOH and then to DEL all in a single itinerary in business class.
As per the itinerary, we were allowed 2 bags each (ticket did not mention the weight allowance per bag). According to AA website, business class passengers are allowed max 32 kg per bag and same as per QR website.
AA website also mentions that business class passengers are allowed 2 free bags and this is the same as QR policy.
This means we would be allowed a total of 4 bags of 32 kg max each bag.
I am a Oneworld Sapphire member and my number is in the record and AA agent at checkin confirmed they could see that I am Sapphire. However, they did not allow ANY additional checkin bags due to the status. We had one more bag (fifth bag) to checkin for which I then had to pay.
I understand that the fifth bag should also be free by virtue of the Oneworld status. Can somebody please confirm this? Also, can I ask AA for a refund?
