AA Elites + Non-Elites Pre-Selecting seats on BA

Is this documented anywhere on the BA website? I'm EXP/OW Emerald traveling with my mom who has no status. We're on separate PNRs. I have tried several times to get her an assigned seat but their Customer Service keeps telling me it is not possible. I also asked them to link the bookings but they say they can't do it.
BTW, I do see my assigned seat on the AA reservation. It showed up a few weeks after I assigned myself a seat through BA's "Manage My Booking" facility.

I called BA again. This time I clearly stated that I am OW Emerald and wanted to apply the TCP process to link my mom's reservation to my reservation. I guess the agent was impressed with my "insider lingo" because he did it right away and also assigned seats for my mom right next to me on both flights. Yay!
