Any Way To "Up-Fare" My N Fare to 1.0 EQP?

The outbound is N, return is L (1.0 eqp, right?). The difference will be 50200 vs 49333...anything I can do?

Telephone AA and ask them to change the booking code. They will probably charge you the phone booking fee.

Sometimes if the ticket isn't purchased you can put it on hold, then phone AA and have them change the fare code, then you can finish the purchase online without the fee. Unfortunately I've tried that a couple of times and ended up having to talk on the phone to AA web services, since the software is too smart and keeps wanting to override the 1-point fare with the "cheapest available" 1/2-point one. Eventually I've gotten it done, but not without a bit of hassle.

Will there also be a change fee and difference of fare (if there is one)?

If it's already ticketed, of course they will want a change fee and surcharge on a non-refundable fare.

YUP.

This is one fee I really hope AA changes soon to eliminate assessing change fee for up-faring on the exact same itin. AA wants you to pay more TO pay more. Totally ridiculous!

Then again, we all have our reasons to up the fare class.

Then business travelers would buy cheap, non-changeable tix and only change to expensive fares when needed. Not a good formula for the airline's bottom line.

When I flew upgraded O class, AA gave me 1.0 EQP per mile...any chance the same will happen here?

They should charge the fare difference...and the longer one waits, the higher the fare difference on a changeable ticket is likely to be- but not a change fee, IMO.

Cheers.

Very small. You got lucky; it's been known to happen.

You can phone to change it. As noted, fees may apply.

Are you sure it is EQP you need and not EQM?

Is there any chance a gate agent could help and change the booking code day of travel?

Nope. That's not something that they have control over, I'm quite sure. Sometimes, when they rebook folks for missed flights or other irregular operations, the passenger is booked in a full class code, but I'm sure that they don't have specific access for N->L sorts of things.

Cheers.

I can't imagine asking an employee to take action at cost to his employer to provide me a benefit, clearly contravening rules. It's not a formula for stable employment.

I disagree, as I believe it will only make them more money, instead of more money + $150 change fee (= discouraging people to do it) and not lower revenue.

If you want FC/Biz, people will buy it regardless. If you wait, there are more people waiting with you for that upgrade, thus your chances are lower. Also, as brp pointed out, the longer they wait, the more expensive it becomes to upgrade just as with most economy fares.

Also, I believe, people who do buy premium fares do not care much about status/perks for a particular airline (and why should they), hence, assessing the change fee serves no purpose except discouraging buying up.
