AA challenge $$ charge?
 

The GF called AA about the Platinum challenge this morning. Flying
ASP-SYD-IAD-DEN(via DFW)- ASP (via LAX and SYD) in D/A class and was charged 150$ to join. Is this a recent charge? Anybody else charged this? I joined for free back in May for the same trip and wasn't charged anything.

Yes, a relatively recent change to the challenge(s). USD150 for Plat, and a lesser fee (can't recall exact amount) for Gold. Some references to it on this board in other threads.

A shame, as far as I'm concerned, but probably a welcome change in some others' opinions. Whatever, gotta live with it!

There has been a lot a commentary - both before and after the change was announced - on the sticky Unofficial Guide: AAdvantage elite status, gold & platinum challenges, and more. See posts in that thread around mid-October (post #2953 on page 197)

I luckily spotted the commentary in time and signed up myself and Mrs P for a Plat challenge starting Nov 16

pandaperth's info. is basically correct. The fee was added for signing up beginning 10/15, regardless of when you want to start the challenge (10/16, 11/1,...).

Also, just an fyi, some people set their options to show different number of posts per page, so post #2953 may be on different pages (page 74 for me; showing 40 posts per page). So most people just give the post # or even better, link to the relevant post.

Dont quite understand the OP.

You "joined up" in May.....Did you do a challenge then?
Unless it was a Gold challenge you would and should not have been allowed to do another Plat challenge for some time.
