Finally, does anyone know whether I can book an AA Vacation but NOT show up at the hotel? The vacation package (with $100 off) would be cheaper than the flight, but I'm going to stay with a buddy in MAD.

Thanks, LRD and uxb. I just found out that the minimum spend has to be $1,250, so I'll be better off just going for airfare. Also, for others who may read this, this code is valid through Dec. 14.

I also found out from AA Vacations directly that flight and hotel are different in that one can forfeit the hotel without negative ramifications for the return flight. I had hoped to bring down the flight price compared to a flight-only booking (will stay with a buddy)--it would have worked out if it weren't for the $1,250 minimum. Oh well.

Still open for any discount codes before I purchase the flight tomorrow.

Have never encountered an expiration up to the date of the validity dates. Since they are typically for events (e.g., conferences), it's not unusual for there to be late registrations right up to the date of the event.

and yes, 7-8% are usually the high end, most of them are 5%, with only the rare occasion of 10%.
