This will help some people worried about potential changes in lifetime GOLD (1MM), liefttime PLT (2MM), or other MM crossing benefits. This is especially helpful consider the current higher limits for transferring, buying, and giving miles.

The bonus amount varies by member. My DH got an offer of 10% bonus miles and I received an offer of 20% bonus miles. - Suzanne

Isn't the same difference?

I figure if you buy 60000 miles + 12000 miles bonus + 1700 miles for credit card miles = 73000 miles roughly divided by $1700 is 2 cents per mile. Not bad.

I know you can purchase up to 60000 per year. But, will they give you a bonus on each 5000 miles up to 60000, or only on the first 5000?

"Right now, when you gift, share or buy 5,000 or more AAdvantage miles you'll earn 20% bonus miles!"

Seems pretty clear to me.

I am getting near to 1MM, and would like to cross the threshold in January, to extend the life of my eVIPs.

The points page says "Please allow 72 hours for purchased miles to post to the designated AAdvantage account and 7 days for transferred miles to post to the designated AAdvantage account."

So if I purchase or transfer on 31 December, I wonder whether the date it credits to my account will be in 2008 or 2009??

I would assume it's a twenty percent bonus on any amount of miles you purchase over 5k. Ergo 5k is the minimum amount of miles purchased where you will receive the bonus.

I changed the "1" in "10" to a "2" and got offered 20%.

isn't it cheaper just to purchase the seat and you would also get miles for that flight (which needs to be subtracted from any calculation of cost per mile, I guess)

Please correct me if I am wrong

be sure to read the fine print, which says ""...bonus miles related to this offer will post...in 6-8 weeks following the end of the promotion."
