I don't know, but I got a call from AA last night (morning) at 3:00. Doing my best Hillary impersonation, I answered the phone, and the rep told me my flight at 8:20 CLT=> DFW was delayed until 11:00 and gave me options to rebook. I asked the reason why and he said "looks like a crew strike". I know he mis-spoke, but I wonder if that was the same thing as "crew refusal".

That's odd, but my guess is that either the Captain refused to fly the airplane with a mechanical or the crew chose to fly their contract by refusing to "do favors" for the company.

I was on a flight once where the mechanics wrote off the mechanical yet the Captain felt unsafe to fly the plane. That flight eventually canceled. And on several flights crew members had refused to waive their legalities by refusing to work flights that would extend their duty day or coming to work early without meeting minimum rest requirements.

So I wonder how this pans out regarding compensation and changes without any penalties and fees

Pilot in Command has the final say on accepting an aircraft.

If he feels the aircraft is not safe to fly he is allowed to refuse to fly it.

And rightly so. The lives of everybody on board are his/her responsibility during the course of the flight.

Maybe he had a union related dispute, like this United pilot

Apparently the aircraft was being worked on for over 6 hrs, and the crew eventually called fatigued around 2200. Operations coded the cancellation as a crew refusal.

Maybe that pilot found out he was one of 950 being furloughed (a large portion of those 950 to be furloughed again for the 2nd time since 9/11)

The story seemed to indicate he was caught, by another crew, wearing his hat, and he was supposed to not wear it as a sign of union unity.

Ditto.

A hat? X number of passengers delayed/inconvenienced/Etc. over a hat?

If this is indeed true, then perhaps union leadership(s) should pull their heads out of .........Upton Sinclairs' " The Jungle" and go back to Mother Goose's " The Goose that laid the Golden Eggs", with a quick check of the "Wall Street Jounal", specifically spot oil prices, and some of our leading indicators, and then Google "Turnip,Blood from".

Flame away if you must-You can't kill me and you can't eat me.

Folks, this is what unions are all about...meaningless posing and petty gripes that disrupt the lives of others. orget all that nonsense about "quality"...

THE ONLY THING A UNION GUARANTEES YOU IS A BILL!!!
