AADR And SJU Runs: Isn't Puerto Rico Considered "Latin America"?

I was just thinking about something for those folks doing SJU Runs to take advantage of the AADER Bonus. Most of those low fares to Puerto Rico are "O" fares. In the Section relating to Elite Qualifying Miles, "O" fares are ineligible for mileage accrual on flights to "Latin America." Latin America is not defined, but it seems to me that Puerto Rico could certainly fall within that definition.

So, has anyone actually done an SJU run and received q-miles for it? Just curious, because I have a run coming up soon.

AA considers SJU domestic for most purposes (for example no lounge priviledge for PLTs). I am hoping that it counts, just did JFK/SJU via MIA for miles and AADER.

I know that. But, generally, "Latin America" usually includes Caribbean destinations where a Romance Language (or, at least, Spanish) is the primary language. If you check, most resources will include Puerto Rico as part of "Latin America." Is there someplace separate where AA defines the term?

I know that AA considers SJU domestic for lounge access and upgrade purposes. But, as an example, I think that there is little doubt that Mexico is considered Latin America, yet it is considered a domestic flight for those purposes. Query whether an O fare to Mexico would accrue q-miles.

The following link lists AA's Latin American/Mexican Destinations:

--Note Puerto Rico is not on the list.

Yes, I have. O, Q, N; they're all good. They all earn miles and they're all upgradeable for free (if you're EXP, of course).

I've done many trips to (or through) SJU in "O" and always earned 100% EQM. "O" fares earn miles to every destination where stickers can be used for upgrades, regardless of whether or not dictionaries, encyclopedias, wikipedia, or any other source considers these destinations to be part of "Latin America."

That's good enough for me. Something to point to in AA's own rules that excludes Puerto Rico as part of Latin America, regardless of dictionary definitions of the term, gives us a basis to claim a right to q-miles on an O fare.

You won't need to claim a right. Your miles will post automatically.

Sometimes they do, sometimes they don't.

I've had to claim unposted miles, on average, three or four times in a year. I'm still waiting for miles on a flight I took on April 2. Made the claim for miles on April 20.
