AA.com booking - How to avoid codeshare?

I am trying to book a flight to KUL and would like to go via NRT so that I can fly on AA (to take advantage of the double elite miles promotion).
On AA.com, the outbound flights are on codeshare operated by CX. I selected AA only, yet, I am getting codeshare flights.

Any suggestion? Thanks.

Are you planning your flights with the multicity option, breaking them up at NRT?

No. Just straight through. I just want to be able to fly on AA metal on the long flight to Asia. AA.com proposes outbound using CX from JFK or LAX to HKG. Then from HKG to KUL.
My prefer route is be on AA metal from Chicago to NRT.

Thanks.

I often find the best way is to set my number of flights to show at fifty, as well as AA only (which does reveal codeshares, as you have seen,) or use the tools available in the Unofficial Users' Guide, like ITA, and use that as a guide. It might take $15 to get what you want, in the end.

If you go into multicity and break it up, those flights will appear under search by schedule.

JFK-NRT
NRT-KUL
KUL-NRT
NRT-JFK

Thanks. It didn't work as I expected. To fly to KUL from NRT, the route proposed was NRT-LAX-HKG-KUL. That's the limitation of online booking, I guess.

Try using ITA to find the flights you want. Check the page there for the codes you use, you can specify AA metal only if you want. Then try searching by schedule using the exact hour of the day field and return 50 flights. You should see the flight you have in mind in the list somewhere, hopefully.

Maybe you need to fine tune the flight times. I went in before I posted and the JFK-ORD-NRT on AA metal was there on a random date I selected (3:30pm arrival), as well as a JAL nonstop NRT-KUL (departs before the AA flight arrives from ORD), and CX and JL routings with one stop that do work (none show as AA codeshares, though). Those flights are 5pm or later and will require an overnight along the way in HKG or SIN. Did you search by schedule and not by price? I also used "all carriers".

As a quick test, I ran the search from DFW instead of YYZ. The problem with the JAL flights is that there are no legal connections at NRT without an overnight transit as far as I can see. The return works well with the red-eye JAL flight from KUL, and connects with the early DFW flight.

No, it's you inadvertently unlocking the built-in "this user wants a milage run" feature AA is announcing next month*.

*I'd use "RSN" but I doubt most people would get it.

I wouldn't consider this a MR - more a diverting of biz from a Oneworld airline to AA, contributing in my tiny way to enable AA to meet the expectations of its elites FF.

Thanks to all ...it looks like it is because of the arrival time to NRT.

To fly AA metal to NRT will cost me extra for overnight accommodation in NRT and I don't know of any reasonably priced hotels near NRT. A while back, I flew JAL to KUL and an overnight stay at the Nikko hotel was part of the deal.

Doing my sums to work out if it is worth my while to stay loyal to AA.

We had a similar discussion recently in the JAL forum.
