I second what JDiver writes. I use FSS regularly, and I am no movie star. I am a middle-aged lady who uses a wheelchair to get around. I am PLT and have AC membership. When I travel on my own (usually out of JFK), I find FSS is a must, since it makes it much, much (did I mention much?) easier to get from the car service, through security, to the AC. When I am traveling with my husband, we will sometimes use FSS, sometimes not (a lot will depend on whether he feels like dealing with the lines and the time of day, etc.).

Honestly, if we were older, I'm sure we would be using FSS all. the. time. The service is kind and reliable, without being fawning and overbearing.

That isn't the same description of service I get after reading the many, many experiences of flyers that have actually used the service.
As others have stated, no, definitely not.

They should pass through formalities with you, walk you to the ground floor entrance to Flagship Check-in, to the front of the security queue and from then - let them know in accord with your schedule - either from Gate 41 to the Tarmac and the Cadillac SUV for transport to the remote Eagle terminal and the "Eagle's Nest" Admirals Clublet, or to the Admirals Club and Flagship Lounge for some R and R (shower, libations and snacks, etc.) before taking you to the remote Eagle Terminal.

At least that's how it has worked for me, arriving on AA 73.
Does anyone know if this is documented anywhere? Or what services are included? I called the Five Star Service, and they didn't know about this. Thanks

Of course it's documented; I'm guessing you got someone on the phone who wasn't very knowledgeable about FSS, not a Premium Services agent. The link to the FSS page on aa.com is shown in the wikipost at the top of the page.

Services include:

Connection assistance

You'll be greeted upon arrival and escorted to your next flight. If you have time, we’ll accompany you to the Admirals Club lounge (where available).

Includes:
  • Arrival gate meet and greet
  • Admirals Club lounge access
  • Priority re-accommodation during delays
  • Gate escort
  • Assistance with connections on other airlines
  • Early boarding

Arrival assistance

Upon arrival, we’ll meet you at the gate and escort you through Customs and Immigration and/or baggage claim.

Includes:
  • Arrival gate meet and greet
  • Car service coordination
  • Escort through Customs and Immigration for international arrivals
  • Admirals Club lounge access**
  • Escort to Baggage Claim
  • Luggage retrieval
  • Escort to car service

*Five Star Service does not include continuous care, medical assistance, dispensing medication, assistance with meals or aid within a restroom. Contact Reservations at 800-433-7300 for help with these needs.

**Admirals Club lounge access not available on international arrivals.

Flagship Lounge would only be included for those who can access via class of service or status. (Note: I'm posting my experience over the times I've used FSS, several times in the last six months alone.)

Please note that, while FSS personnel will not help you inside the restroom, they will help you get to the restroom within the AC (if you need special assistance). The accessible restrooms within the ACs are, in my experience, quite large and comfortable. Easy to use if you are on your own, and definitely good if you are helping a companion or parent who needs a bit of assistance before/after a flight. When in doubt, ask at the front desk.

They can arrange for wheelchair service as well, though wheelchair service is not provided directly by FSS.

Thanks for the replies.

The dynamic duo flies home today. I hope the paparazzi can be kept at bay.

I'll report back on their LGA experience.

ROFL! I'm sure FFS will cover them with a tarp whilst in transit... Anything to avoid those awful paps and persistent autograph hounds. They're drawn to AA golf carts like flies to honey, bears to bacon.

Thanks for the feedback. I've update the phone # in the reservation so they can reach us. This will be very useful for my mom since she hasn't traveled in about a decade.

The ladies were well taken care of in LGA.

They were met at the curb ready to check the luggage, taken through security without any hassle. The mother-in-law thought the AC club was the greatest thing. They were the first on the plane, then back home.

It's an expensive service but did make the travel experience hassle free for my wife.

Well worth the money.

Thanks to the posters on this thread for the information, they were more helpful than 2 of the 5* agents I spoke to.

JFK FSS

Currently booked 2F tickets on MIA-LAX-NRT(JL) but hoping to switch the connection to transiting through JFK (saves about 4 hours + more time in JL F). The connection is about 90min, any idea if Five Star Service would provide some sort of airside transfer so that I don't have to exit security, change terminals, and then reclear security?

I'd stick with LAX. No need to reclear security. At JFK, JAL is in terminal 1 and AA is in T8.

Yeah I understand that. Hence, my question about getting FSS at JFK to not have to deal with an annoying transfer. If some sort of Tarmac transfer is available, then I'd much prefer the JFK flight - much better schedule-wise and I only have to spend 2.5hrs on an AA 738 instead of 5.

Was recently told by FSS that the paid service is only available to passengers traveling in F? Is that true and is that a recent change?

It's a relatively recent change, I think( maybe a year?). I think it's also reflected on the webpage.
