When did you get this email? This sounds brilliant -- although JFK moves pretty quickly for me when traveling alone, this may be perfect to try when traveling with the wife and infant (and associated extra luggage items!)

I just received the e-mail blast this morning. The initial survey about HSBC Premier airport lounges was back in September (per the other thread).

HSBC premier seems to be the equivalent of Citi's CitiGold: "Maintain $100,000 in combined personal deposit and investment balances or $500,000 in combined personal deposit, investment, and credit/mortgage balances". Weird that Citi, with its longstanding relationship with AA, would not offer this benefit itself.

Yes, it is a pretty equivalent product. In fact, Citigold has been copying the product lately with its attempt at offering worldwide services. But I have to say that HSBC is in the lead on overall product offering in this segment in many ways from what I have seen.

I agree. I have both and the Citigold product varies from place to place. As a result, they don't necessarily recognize each other and have reciprocity when it comes to benefits, aside from basic banking needs. They even tried out charging a forex surcharge for ATM withdrawals for about a year, before it was repealed last August.

HSBC Premier has the same benefits in the parts of the world I visit. There was no difference in the services that HK, SG or US Centres. In Asia, Premier is a big deal where the lounges are more substantial, the service is better and the coffee is good! In the US, OTOH, the Premier lounges seem almost like an after thought. Two chairs and a flat screen don't make a lounge!

The lounge at the main branch in Vancouver in the HSBC building is one of the nicer ones I've seen in North America - but doesn't compare to many of the ones in Asia.

"Private services said they can't guarantee clients will be able to bypass lines -- that's up to Transportation Security Administration officials and airline workers. "Our reps are pretty aggressive when they need to be," said Michelle Kohler of Airport Assistance, whose prices at LAX start at $95."

So they cut in line? That's pleasant.

I've used a similar service in Tel Aviv and they literally walked to the front of the line and bypassed the whole line, and used crew passport control.

Has anybody heard if the HSBC promo has been extended? I used it a few times during the initial period, and it was great -- the last time, the rep told me that the HSBC folks were in to talk about how to keep it going - but I haven't heard anything?

I heard it will be re-starting in November on a 6 month trial run. Don't know the details yet though.

I received the message below today. Not sure if I'll have a chance to try it out, but will certainly try to if I have any AA flights through JFK or LAX in the period...

Do you bank with HSBC? Just curious, as I have a bunch of cash with them. Wondering if it's just their general sponsorship of JFK.

Based on the services offered with the Five Star Service, it sure doesn't sound like one gets very much that's useful or provides value. Sounds more like "fluffing" to me

Cheers.

OK, just checked through my spam filter and found the same e-mail offering me Five Star service. I do bank with HSBC. Was getting ready to cancel, since my private banker blows. I don't really fly to/from LAX or JFK very often, so not sure how valuable this would be for me.
