Miles earned from credit-card spend do count (along with all other AAdvantage miles) towards lifetime elite status: 1 MM = lifetime Gold; 2 MM = lifetime Platinum.

Yes, but only for lifetime status. 1 million miles == lifetime gold
2 million miles == lifetime platinum.

He was churning them, i.e repeatedly opening and closing credit cards to continually get the sign on bonus. Plenty of people who didn't normally fly AA were doing this back when Citi allowed it because Citi was the only credit card company that did allow it. The loophole in question has since been remedied and it's no longer possible to churn.

I was hoping it could be 1.5 miles or 2 miles per dollar....or bonus miles if booked at aa.com
Same here. It seemed I would get offers from Citi once a month or so. I finally called and told them as long as it was 1:1 on aa airline tickets, they can take me off the list. They finally did.

Not too long ago, the biz cards used to give 2x miles on AA purchases. Obviously, no longer.

Yeah, as a lifetime plat on AA, I no longer use an AA biz MC even for my AA purchases, since they're too cheap to give 2x on their own airline's purchases.

Makes more sense for a lot of customers buying AA tickets to use the SPG Amex, Amex Premier Rewards Gold, Citibank TYP-earning cards and some others instead of the AA credit cards.

Other than sign-up bonuses and the increasingly useless discounted awards that come with the AA credit cards, I don't see much use if any for the AA credit cards.

I noticed on my statement this week that in addition to the 20% bonus miles promotion that I registered for that I also received an additional mile for each dollar spent on AA. I thought this had been discontinued ( in fact I looked back 5 months and this is the first time I have received these AA dollars spent miles in that period). Anyone know anything about this????

I noticed that too and just came here to see if anyone else knows anything about this. The bonus posted to my AAdvantage account as CITIBANK PLATINUM AA TKT BONUS.
