hi all. I usually hang out at the UA forum, but I'm fling AA today and could use any advice you have.

I'm trying to start my honeymoon, currently in MIA (started in PHL) on my way to SJO. Our flight was just canceled, apparently because there's an aircraft stuck on the runway in SJO (airport closed). they're telling us that pax from an earlier canceled flight will get hotel rooms for the night, but we will not. Is this standard? Is it worth pressing the issue? Any advice is welcome and appreciated.

Given the circumstances as described, you are not entitled to anything from AA, unless of course, it is an AA plane stuck on the runway. If it is an AA plane that is stuck, then you should demand compensation, otheriwse, it isn't AA fault.

Sorry to hear about this. Congratulations

I cannot offer any advice on what AA might do for you under the circumstances other than do whatever you can to get a hotel reservation now so you and your young bride (or is it groom?) can be comfortable tonight.

Worry about reimbursement later after you return. Try not to let this get in the way of this very special time.

Good luck and I hope you get on your way soon.

If money isn't an issue: Prime 112. 112 Ocean Drive. Real South Beach and good food ansd service. Call for reservations tel: 305-532-8112.
Otherwise Altamar is nice and local fish restaurant. 1223 Lincoln Road. Tel: 305-532 3061. Get outside seating if not too warm.
Good luck.

Thanks! Looks like we're staying at the Park Central in south beach, so those are great recommendations. Thanks for coming through FTers!

Even with Felix north of CR there will probably be some weather issues throughout Central America since flying around it may be difficult and therefore some other delays.

Might be too late for the OP

Prime 112 is primarily a steak restaurant (one can find a good one in every city)

Altamar is quite good but IMHO ( an many others) best seafood restaurant in
Miami Beach is Nemo

I hope your vacation in CR had its first and final glitch, I think the amount of rain will be back to normal (for us anyway) after today

The plane in question was a small charter plane, it apparently slid off the runway, you can see a picture in the link below

I am also waiting at the AC for AA 2141 this morning. Originally on 971 yesterday morning, but with 2 broken airbuses they canceled it and I was rebooked on 2141 for yesterday evening departure, but it was DELAYED, not cancelled, until 7 AM this morning.

FWIW, between me and a friend, 3 out of 4 scheduled Airbus flights to/from SJO have been cancelled or delayed for hours/overnight due to MAINTENANCE issues in the past couple months. While I definitely do not want AA to fly defiecient aircraft, they really need to work on their PM on these birds IMO. BTW, as mentioned in a previous post 2141 was not for maintenance, but 971 was.

Thanks again for the tips and information. We ended up at Prime 112 and had a great (if enormous) salad (we'd eaten a little at the aiport). Our postponed (right, not really canceled) flight is boarding, so here's hoping we make it out this time!

I try to avoind them if possible. AA needs to realize they are loosing business with those and their old fleet. I am better on another airline that will make it than to deal with all the travel issues.
