Should AA offer lifetime PLAT for those willing to infuse $40K to them now? What a concept to raise cash - buy into elite status up front.

Ugh. MLW's thread got moved here while I was typing my response below. Mass confusion...

It's the equivalent of 2 million Citicard miles at 2 cents a mile (if Citi even buys them at that rate). Maybe $30,000 if they cost 1.5 cents per miles.

But it has been published many many times in this forum, maybe a quick search would have yielded the answer.
How close are you to reaching MM? As you can see, I still have quite a bit of miles left. But I think once I get PLT status at the end of the year it will become much easier for me.

My dad crossed XMM on the 16th. It is my understanding that eVIP updates are done on Mondays so I would assume the 21st for both you and Dad.

Well, after starting 2007 with right around 6,000 lifetime miles, I just crossed my 1MM threshold and got EXP for the first time today. I did all the usual suspects: Fido, a bunch of Citi bank and CC offers, but the biggest help was Miscrosoft Live Search Club. At this pace I should be 2MM by this time next year, if not sooner. I don't think the end of this year will be possible, but I'll give it a shot.
Thanks to everyone for all the tips. Now I just have to find ways to burn all of these miles up other than maxing my transfers to Hilton.

finally 1MM
After lots of charges to the Citibank CC (including tuition and down payment on a car), I was wondering (hoping) I'd cross the 1MM mark flying.
Sad to say this did take place (hit 1MM flying), but on a bereavement fare to which I'm grateful to AA for (savings about $1k / person). Hard to enjoy the 2 segments that put me over, even in F, due to the circumstances. Plan to savor the achievement on the way home, though.
Now, let's see, how to get to 2MM and lifetime PLT in a few yrs ... time for CC flips and more MR's.
thanks fellow FT'ers for your tips

Just made lifetime plat 2,000,008 miles. My father signed me up for their program 9/28/1987. Who knew I would make it to 2 million. Many miles on my AA credit cardsused for business etc. Happy to get it, hwoever when I look at the big picture and the problems with airlines, you wonder the real value of lifetime plat. You dont have to pay for baggage, (as of now) and all the other perks.

I would not even be even close to reaching this milestone without the help of fellow FT members! Thank you all.
Now onto the 2nd Million.
