AA employees using Admirals Club / AC membership?

We were in Washington Reagan AC this morning. Place was nearly empty. But among the handful of travelers using the club, we were surprised to see 3 AA employees enjoying the facilities; a woman in a FA uniform, a man in a flight deck uniform, and another man in a DCA maintenance t-shirt. All 3 were using the club facilities, not just passing through.

This is fine with me! I'm glad they had a chance to chill and enjoy the amenities. But I always thought AA employees were not allowed to use the AC. Is this true?

The Dallas AC girls wouldn't even let me in the club to try to return a coat from a passenger who left it onboard.

On the flip side, the GM in LHR allowed me the use of the club a few years back on an Airline Ambassadors Escort trip. I had a smal lchild and were laying over in LHR for 10 hours on our way to Africa. The staff were very nice.

I thought we were prohibited from using the club. Even when we non-rev I believe we are not allowed to purchase the day pass.

That's interesting. I was on my way back from DCA Sunday, and the only other people in the club were two gentlemen, one of whom had a lanyard with a security badge on it. He had the badge in his shirt pocket, but it had an AA lanyard. Odd.

It could have been a contract worker (i.e. janitorial, bartender). They often wear AA lanyards and even pseudo-AA uniforms, but they do not work for AA.

You can't even buy an AC membership?

What's the point of that?

Membership in the Admirals Club® is open to all persons 18 years of age and over. Employees of American Airlines and AMR Inc. are not permitted to join the club.

But what possible reason is there for prohibiting AA employees from joining the club?

Not sure what the thinking is. Retirees can buy a membership , and from what I am reading anyone can buy a one day pass .

Probably to stop the rampers from using it for lunch breaks on a daily basis.

(1) Because they're at the airport every day, and would be in a position to use the club every day.

(2) What happens when a business traveler comes into the club and cannot find a place to sit because of all the AA employees hanging out on their coffee break?

Then, wouldn't the ACs be full of other airlines' employees on their lunch breaks? Nothing prevents them from buying an AC membership.

Maybe the DCA flight ops location was closed/unavailable and use of the AC is a temporary alternative?

I had a friend who was a FA and we'd connect sometimes at DFW and I'd take her into the AC, sometimes in uniform, some times she would be in street clothes and nothing was ever said about her not being allowed there. She was my guest, not a member.
