Bizarre Routing/Award Request. Doable?
Hear me out.
I have to fly LGA - BUR. No big deal. However, I have the ulitmate pleasure of attempting to escort my 85 yo MIL from FLL-BUR. Is there a way I can do a "normal" award ticket that would take me LGA-FLL-DFW-BUR and it's return either as a normal award ticket or as a 30K r/t upgrade to F from a paid Y? I don't think that AA recognizes the FLL diversion [to pick up my MIL] as a scheduled stop along the way. Then, of course, I have to figure out HER ticket from FLL-BUR and decide if I'm sitting up front while sticking her in row 35 or if I'll really be a nice guy and put her in the front of the a/c. Suggestions before I call CSO for their opinions? I'm more confused than normal

A simple call to AA will verify what you can do. You have to call them to ticket it anyway.

Do you need to escort here both ways? I think FLL should be valid as your one stopover on your LGA-BUR trip. If not, MIA certainly is; is that an option?
If you need to bring her home, too, than that's probably not doable on a single award ticket.

when you're 85 and visually impaired, traveling alone becomes an issue. I may just have to meet her in DFW or figure out the MIA scenario. [sigh]
Thanks for the input.

Alternatively, you can easily get an award ticket for three of the legs, then buy a ticket for the 4th leg. For example, LGA-FLL-BUR-MIA should be very do-able as one award, then you can purchase MIA-LGA to complete the trip. I do not know if they will let you get LGA-FLL-BUR-FLL on one ticket, so you might have to return to a different Florida airport (such as MIA or PBI).

Isn't funny how one little letter, like "F" can change the entire trip dynamics??
