MIA-GRU diverted for burning smell

CARACAS (Reuters) - An American Airlines flight to Brazil made an emergency landing in Caracas on Friday after the pilot noticed an acrid odor like burning wiring coming from cockpit instruments, the airline said on Friday.

I can't seem to find out which flight this is. Any hints?

995 is the only nonstop that uses a 777. And AA.com shows last night's 995 as not having yet arrived GRU. So my bet is 995.

Guess you're right. I had to look at yesterday's 995 route and it's still in transit. I was initially looking at today's departures for 995.

Thanx,
Steve

Funny, I wonder what aircraft it was.

I was on AA 67 last week (the 777) in F and the entire cabin crew came by my seat sniffing the air and saying that up by the bins it smelled strongly of either popcorn or burning insulation. After a few minutes the odor passed. Nobody from the flight deck came back to investigate, so I gave it no mind. But I wonder...

The oddity of it all has been that the pax once in CCS, had to fly back to MIA, so that they'd board the other AA995 - 24 hours later, quite upsetting for those on the flight, I can imagine - arriving only today at Sao Paulo...

Probably a lot less upsetting then going down in flames I suppose

This is probably due to crew and plane management issues.

C'mon - I was suggesting
a) CCS-GRU non-stop flight which is only 5 hours, pax would arrive same day, much less inconvenience.

Going back to MIA and enduring Immigration&Customs all over to board 24 hours later (eventually in middle seats, only - no upgrades anymore) is sad.

AAEXP - Agreed, nevertheless it's been the less convenient choice for those on the flight. Best would be for AA to board a 777 crew on one of their MIA-CCS bound flights and take the bird all the way to GRU as originally planned, don't you agree?

Wow, I wish somebody had had a camera! It's not every day that we get to see an AA 772 at CCS!

"Been there" a few years ago; we diverted to ASU:

Overall, a disconcerting flight, but AA comped us well and the crew did a marvelous job of putting that bird on the ground.

AGREED, but who cares what would be best for the passengers
