Personally, I'm just going to start a lot of my trips elsewhere in Europe and just do sub-24-hour transits through the UK -- particularly on award tickets, one-way or otherwise.
So transits or connections within 24 housr will not be affedted- is that correct??

So say I am traveling LAX/LHR/DUB and can only get the LAX/LHR portion on an award tix ( revenue between LHR and DUB), then I get stuck with the tax unless it is all on one PNR

Exactly. I have several of those coming up (SFO/SJC-LON, then LON-BCN, LON-PRG). Because the second parts are BA awards, and on a separate PNR, I have to pay the taxes. There was a fabulous thread with details about this that I will try to find and append. Yup, we're screwed

Here's the informative thread (thanks GUWonder):

Cheers.

That's correct.

It'll be times like this coming year that I will regret that selectively throwing away the first coupon(s) (or select other coupons) on a ticket is no longer possible -- at least not without often risking that: 1) the entire reservation gets cancelled out; and/or 2) the ticket becomes unusable unless flying all of the segments in the order purchased.

I think according to Boston Brahmins, the proper tense is we're "schrod."

And both threads are now tacked to the "Unofficial Guide" sticky.

Like the old Boston joke:

One woman to a friend "What did you do last weekend"
"I went to Gloucester to get schrod"
"Ah, I always wondered what the past tense of that was."

Cheers.

I was using Continental in those days, so my experience was with them and not AA. Sorry for the confusion.

I'm already ticketed and upgraded for a return in early February; it'll be interesting to see what happens.

UK Upgrade tax now up to £80 pounds!

Title says it all. Looking to use eVIPs for a quick weekend to London and the $281 RT web fare (from JFK) with taxes and fees turns into $516! With the horrible exchange rate right now, that's another $156.

Such a bargain, and you get LHR as the special bonus offer too.

Isn't the 'upgrade' element actually only £40? The tax on economy fares is now £40 and Premium now £80 so the additional payment for non-economy is £40.

I agree with your general point though - no justification for it wahtsoever.

Of course there's justification- because they can, and because we will, apparently, pay it. The price of luxury keeps going up

Cheers.

Unless of course one chooses the luxury of other fine destinations where the consumer is not taxed to pay for incompetence.

Simple.

My experience at LHR and LGW has become more sucky rather than improved of late. Increasing the tax is unlikely to reduce the suckyness of either airport.

When using LHR or LGW doesn't suck and is actually pleasurable again, then they can hit me up for another 20GBP. Until then, BAA can go pound sand.

Well, that's an excellent point. The base fares are so low that, even with the taxes, the fare is still pretty cheap. It looks bad on a relative basis...but the bottom line is still very good compared to other destinations.

Cheers.
